The guy that wrote that is full of beans. It's not true. This is not a rumor at all. Dealers can get lower grading fees when sending in bulk orders. It's nothing new.
The point of this coin blog is to help the possibly misinformed with answering their sincere and honest questions (otherwise, there would be no need for this coin blog). And unless someone has worked for one of the third party grading services in management or grading, most everyone else is fallible and would also be misinformed about the grading idiosyncrasies of the TPGs that might allow for preferential treatment of Dealer submissions over individual submissions. Moreover, as the days go on, there may be input from other coin collectors who feel they may not have received fair treatment from third party grading services (assuming they will not feel they will be shouted down if they speak up) with respect to this issue.
The rumor is in respect to possible preferential TPG grading treatment being given to Dealers when they submit these submissions in bulk, not that they have the ability to submit coins in bulk, resulting in lower fees. At least that is my take on what the smaller coin dealer stated in his original comment.
You wrote "better grading deals". I took that as price. Getting past that, The guy that wrote that dealers get better grades, is full of it. He knows nothing about the services.
Horsehockey! Do you believe every seller on eBay who claims a raw coin is "such and such" a grade? Do you think these raw coins will sell for the same price as graded specimens? Chris Me, too, but I don't just blindly submit coins hoping for good grades. Learning how to grade does help. That is something the OP should bear in mind. Chris
Take these bullion MS70 coins to a coin show and see how many dealers are begging for them. The answer is NONE!
Why buy raw? if you think that these so rare buy them in a MS70 slab. I'm sure there are plenty dealers waiting to unload them.
You said they were worth the same. So you were wrong? I don't want raw. I want 70s at the price of raw, like you were talking about. Who in the heck said they were rare? You don't know what you are talking about.
Got that right! An oz of silver will never be anything more than an oz of silver no matter what it grades and although some collectors really want an MS70, I'd say the majority of collectors who really care about that stuff is minimal. At least, that's been my experience according to my coin club and most serious coin collectors I've spoken to. MS70's are mainly for show, bragging rights and the rah, rah, rah. jmho
Who said anything about selling to dealers?!!! Put them on eBay. Do you really think they will sell for the same price as the raw ones? Chris
I understand the misinterpretation. By receiving replies, such as yours, we can better gauge the veracity of that TPG preferential treatment claim.
This is true for ANY collectors club member the signs a Bulk Submitter Agreement with PCGS. Fee's as low as $10 per coin are possible but on the other end of the spectrum, fee's as high as $40 per coin are also possible for higher grade, more expensive, coins.
