Hey, I settle for 'ugly' when I can't afford 'pretty'! I'd have to sell a kidney to get a 'pretty' 1909S-VDB!
This is a fun thread. I think we should try to limit it to coins that are actually part of your collection, not just crappy coins found in the dirt. I keep this one only because I know if I got rid of it for $30, the new owner would use X-rays or CT technology and have it slabbed as an NC type, 1 of 4 known worth $75,000.
Counterfeits are as old as coins. Here is a Roman denarius with obverse of Vespasian, reverse of Domitian (Fortuna). Somebody stole a couple of dies and stamped out some mules. This coin is only silver plated, and over the centuries, the plating has worn off, exposing the bronze core. Ugly, but interesting. The Romans had decisive ways of dealing with counterfeiters - they were fed to the beasts in the arena. I wonder if the maker of this coin got away with it, or wound up as lion fodder.
Possibly the worst looking 1oz gold Canadian maple leaf ever. When I found it at work here in the scrap yard it took like 10 minutes to figure out what it was.
Yeah your right, that is an ugly coin. I have one similar too it but mines is a Roosevelt Dime. Do you think it's a mint error?

I was surprised he gave me silver to be honest.
