Hi everyone, I need help identifying this Asian coin. It is sealed in plastic. What is it? I can't seem to find it anywhere.
In Krause, looks like 10000 Yen, 0.999 silver, Y-91, 2-year type 1986 or 1987, both worth the same, catalog value $150 BU. Don't take it out of its holder. 60th Anniversary of Reign of Hirohito, 1926-1986.
Now you can go into eBay "solds" for this coin and get a good estimate of true market value. Since it's worth more than double other 10,000 yen coins of the same period, it appears to have a bright future. The undisturbed packaging is important to the Japanese; without it, maybe 20% less. P.S., qute kids (way beyond cute).
These coins were issued by Japan to celebrate 60 years of rule by Hirohito. The face value was 10,000 yen although it only had perhaps 5,000-6,000 yen of silver in it. They also issued a 100,000 yen coin in gold. The coins the first year were only available to Japanese citizens, and even then, only through a lottery. My mother-in-law and sister-in-law got me one each.
From this earlier thread, you have the information on what the coin is. Armed with that information, why don't you look up the value yourself? Also, it's better to start your own thread and post pictures of your coin(s).
