This coin was a raw eBay purchase about 6-7 years ago not long after I started collecting . My first photos were really too dark, so I recently did some more photos and adjusted the color balance to get rid of some of the (inaccurate) green in the originals. If you have an opinion on grade, please feel free to post it. I opine that the obverse is VF, the reverse F15 or close to VF. I am certainly no expert at grading early bust coins! Hope you like her.
No, I think it's a die crack as is the one through the 1 of the date and up to the innr point on star 1.
The surfaces and color are clearly not original, but I'm sure you know that already. The coin has retoned to the point where it is beginning to be attractive again. If you forced me to put a number on it, I would say F-15. The obverse is a 20, the reverse is an 18. I'm going to knock off a couple points for the old cleaning, and say it is worth F-15 money. It looks like a nice coin, congrats on owning it. As for the pictures... the reverse pics look nice and well balanced (maybe a little bright, but it is well lit and clear). The obverse pics are in focus well, but try moving the lights a little more. How many lights are you using? There is a hot spot in the field in front of her face (around k3) and a dark spot around the date. Try moving the lights to more evenly light the fields, and reduce the glare on the right side.
Thanks physics-fan, using 2 lights in reflectors, left and right. I'll play around some with the positioning, the hot spots bothered me a bit too. Luckily the old cleaning was not too abrasive so the effect is more of brightness in the fields than a bunch of hairlines.
Here is version 2 of the obv. I repositioned the lights to be more indirect, which required a doubling of the exposure.
Does it approach (photographically) what you see in hand? I like it.......but I liked the first photo too. But I think I like this one better.......
Thanks for the kind remarks. yes, I think the redone obv photo approximates the in hand look fairly closely. It has been a long time since I took this one out of the sdb so now with decent photos I can revisit it anytime I want to.
