Funny.. someone posted a map of the Roman Empire 10 minutes after you of 555 AD - https://www.cointalk.com/threads/i-am-giving-up-coin-collecting.269043/ Synchronicity! Coincidence!
Speaking of maps, if anyone has access to The Barrington Atlas of the Greek and Roman World you will do yourself many favours consulting it! I purchased one years ago and use it quite a bit. I couldn't imagine following along military campaigns from the ancient sources without the atlas by my side. It's also good for locating obscure provincial cities and putting their geography into context.
All that purple in my 555 AD map is still the (Eastern) Roman Empire. You are referring to the fall of the Western Roman Empire (which contained Rome, which got replaced as western capital by Milan then Ravenna).
My thanks to JA for the map and to vespasian70 for the book reference! Both will enhance my ancient coin library
Can anyone direct me to a map of medieval Europe that is the quality and detail of the Roman Empire AD 211 map.
You'll have to be more specific, since the Middle Ages ran for 1000 years, from 476-c.1500 ad. I'm guessing you mean High Middle Ages like 1100 or 1200?
Thank you ValiantKnight and dougsmit for responding so quickly. I would prefer a date range 1200-1300 or a little later. I spoke with Brilliant Maps and they do not have any or plan for any at this time.
Have you looked through the maps section on Forvm, specifically, the Medieval and Later gallery? There are several there which may fit your needs, although they aren't as detailed as the Brilliant Maps maps.
