The coin shop moment thread has me thinking about coin shows. My favorite moment was when I was just looking around one show and a dealer yelled at me and asked "hey where are all your coins?" He had bought some from me multiple times before and I had a small moment of satisfaction that I was still remembered by the vegas show guys even after 2 years of not selling.

Coin for the thread. One of my favorites simply because of the age.

Since I have really only been to one show, this has to be it. I would have loved getting to look around, but since standing in line took up all day, I had to make the 6 hour drive back home right after getting paid..

I would post something here , but most Vegas coin shows do NOT allow pictures taken.

Back on topic... my best coin show moment was meeting Drew and Nancy Wilson, past president of course of the ANA and Numismatic News writer, Cliff Mishler (who ironically lives 15 miles north of me)

My best coin show experience ? It's happened a few times actually. I always think my best experiences were when I ran out of money to buy more coins. But there was one time when I even spent my current pocket piece, one similar to this one -

    - to buy just one more coin.

You see, I was always kinda hard to please. So my problem was never having enough money, my problem was being able to find enough coins that I liked. So when I could find enough coins at a single show that I actually ran out of money - that was a good thing ;)

Since I'm a newbie, I'm going to my first show this Sunday; nothing to sell, so I hope to buy. Any suggestions?

Walk around the entire bourse floor before purchasing anything. Don't rush to buy. Spend some time trying to interact with the dealers rather than be just another face in the crowd. You might be surprised what might happen.

Have some idea of what you are interested in collecting.

Between prepping my want lists, reference materials, coins for TPG submission (if I can submit at the show), and coins I want to sell/trade, I feel like I always spend twice as long getting ready to go to a show as I do at the show itself! Preparation is key to having a positive experience.

if I had to say my best experience would have been my first Las Vegas coin show at the (Will)Fragner & (Joe)Fragner table. viewing 30 long double wide 2X2 boxes of world coins. yup my back and neck hurt every 2 hours. I'd have to do the usually stand up stretch thing, but there's nothing I'd rather been doing. world coins rule! :)

I really only go to one coin show a year - the annual winter FUN.

Over the years, I have developed a group of fellow collectors that I call friends, and we always meet up for dinner one night of the show. We share our purchases, talk coins, and have a great dinner. Each year, this is the highlight of the show for me - and it doesn't matter what treasures I bought or sold.
