Hey All,, sorry all I been MIA lately. But I got back into checking out a few more coins.. .. so that being said. thought I would post a few. I have a few other coins I need to post as well. any input is always appreciated in advance. Thank you all as always for your time and expertise. So I have a winner? lol
I kinda thought that may be the case, However It is always difficult for me to tell. scale of 1>10 how confident are you of that ? @Treashunt https://www.etsy.com/listing/220092...kiAAMAwdOZIVx_GlJ2waAnng8P8HAQ&kpid=220092855
The 1969 S shown on that website is not the big one. That one is MD also. I would not pay $15,000 or even $15 dollars for it at all! It's misleading! Don't believe or trust everything you see and read on the internet.
Ok so this quarter pic is a good ex: or MD? If so Then there are many conflicting issue's Md vs DD. It appears to me in my research that it stems from one's authoritarian opinion. Or a Registered and respected classification of some sorts? As of now, My understanding is..(which is prolly way off, lol) Is that a D.D. must exhibit full D.D. throughout the coin. But is most cases in not on both sides of the coin!. I say it is a coin toss!! lol and yes I do know the manufacturing process. Kinda like gotta go to the doctor to get a second opinion? And yes your EX: is extreme.
http://doubleddie.com/58222.html Read through that site, especially each subsection of the classes of doubled dies. Of the many resources on the web, I found this one especially useful. Should help you understand a lot of what you said above.
Yes @StrikeOutXXX Ty for the link.. Very helpful. I have read and seen alot...and been at this site before...In times past... however Informative as it is.. I do not see this site as a paper weight to all of Infinity and beyond ,,, If you know what I mean. This site is an explanation of fabrication process, carried with an opinion (in finer detail) of what is considered what. If you follow me in detail? As such you asked me to look at all sub content. There is an extreme underling of opinion. Although there is mention/reference to history and times past as to what was considered. However I do not see this/or these opinions transcendent through out my research base,, I see no consistencies.. ? any other Input would be Great!.. Thank you for your time Charles
I don't see anything about the OP coin that looks like a true DD. It's just not. All of the doubling is flat. None of it is rounded. It's MD.
UGH! Why do I continue to open all these 1969-S DDO Threads?? Here's a reality folks, the 1969-S DDO is so much of an "IN YOUR FACE" Doubling that even the weakest of non-literate coin searchers could spot it and have no doubt that it was THE coin. If someone has to ask, then it simply is not a DDO. Yes, there is a 69-S DDO which is very minor in that doubling can only be seen on the upper end of the first 96 in the date but, this isn't that coin either. It seems that folks do a bit of minor research and conclude that, without a doubt, their Machine Doubled Coin is in fact a Doubled Die yet, never fully understand what they have nor choose to believe those that actually KNOW. I think it would be a fair statement that if someone came along, posted clear, undoctored and accurate photo's of even a minor doubled die, that 99.9% of the folks here would be handing out the"atta-boys"! Now, to answer my own question of "why do I continue to open these threads?", Simple answer: I keep hoping that someone actually got lucky and found one as a few others have in the past. It would be quite a score!
No other input except just about every individual expert or organization recognize the 8 types of doubling (With some considering single-squeeze doubling to be a 9th). I pointed that out specifically due to your previous post (quoted below) - Doubled Dies do not have to show doubling throughout the entire coin. Actually, very few do. Having doubling on both sides of the coin really is a mute point. The Obverse die and the Reverse die are separate to each other, and is what would carry the doubled die impression. Although there are a few coins out there that have true Doubling on both (From each separate die being a doubled die) Obv/Rev have no bearing on each other. It is hard at times to discern true doubling from machine doubling - but by understand what the true doubling is, it helps eliminate strike/machine doubling. Have you talked to a person on here called Teachmind? He has some interesting theories about unconventional coin categories.
I remember the first rad 69 MD penny I found. My heart skipped a beat and I stared at that thing for about 2 days! After all that to have someone (or more than one person) tell me to spend it. It broke my heart.. My problem is I need to wait and do some research before I post any new or unusual finds. 99% are junk and I could have found that out before posting. When you find a real one, and you look it up online and find it, and the die markers are there. You have NO doubt, Then you post it and some idiot who has been on the forum for a week says "it looks like MD" you can tell them. "Have you ever seen a picture of this particular die?" "I have and here is the link"!
No it is simply not the BIG 1969 S DDO. It doesn't mean that it is not A 69-S DDO. As you mention there is at least one minor DDO known, and there may be others that are not known. And if there are, they never will be known if people just stop looking once they realize it is not the "in your face" 1969-S DDO. And there are two types of research you can do on the 69-S DDO. You can search to see what is already known, and you can research to learn how to recognize a doubled die so that you might find a previously unknown one. And a good reason to open these threads, is that some day you might be able to help identify a previously unknown one.
I look on Wexler's site and Coppercoins site all the time to keep familiarizing myself with different varieties. I have also ordered some books from James Wiles on Coneca's site, and plan to purchase Vol 6 of the Cherrypickers guide when it comes out.
