RPM -016 this variety has a URS-4 P/P west another pup is that little - dash like Mark on the west side just below the loop in the P. And in full steps too! Great score!

Oh drool... that's a biggie. Let's start with the 1869 wide date DDO 0.4.5 doubling is evident on IGWT shield and leaves, date is repunched Ex.rare R-7,
The reverse is the reverse of hub IIc and with the DDO none are known . This could be a new variety or a sub variety from my references that pertaining to hub marriages.
    You got my attention :)
Broken S in states as well as the missing top serif on the letter E in united.

Is this a good thing or bad and was $9 a good investment on this proof??? Thanks Paddy.

To be honest I don't think it's a proof as my references show this variety as a business strike. No matter what the coin surpasses a $9 value by leaps and bounds .
And to clarify cpg, the Jefferson handbook on variety nickels, as well as the list by James Wiles of varieties on Jefferson nickels.

    Very good! ;)

I was contacted by Howard Spindel of shieldnickels.net and he told me the same, it's a new never documented variety. I have some photography equipment I'll be purchasing next month that is much better than what I currently have and I will get it documented properly.

This is graded MS66 CAC by PCGS in OGH. Ex Waccabuc Collection type set coin previously owned by Bob Shippee

Ha! I wish I could give coins like this away, what would that mean I was keeping?!?

It's very exciting, I've never had a "discovery coin" and was very happy Howard contacted me. I'll post better photos in a month or so once I have the ability to take them. Thank you for all the info you provided!

Yes I found a new Shield variety this year. And Howard gave me the credit for the find. Mine had a new and different cut leaf that was not previously known on the obv hub A. I also had some later die states he used in his master list of variety shields.

I'm going to bump this post for one reason.....if you have not viewed this coin you should. It's what makes this hobby great. Like finding the mother load while prospecting . ....and also to prove a point they are out there ...waiting to be discovered ...... this is a biggie And Remember You Saw It Here first!

Thanks for the bump! Once I have the equipment I'll take much better photos (I already promised Howard I would get them for him and SNV) I'll post them on CT as well!

    Please help with grading?
I look forward to any feedback on my Jefferson Nickel's (1949-D) and 1939? (I know the 39 isn't FS, but loving the building details! I'm hoping the 49 qualifies as FS?) Regards.

  21. I like this proof. Low mintage, fun coins. I eventually want to nab a buffalo eventually just waiting for "my" coin :p 20151001_022044.jpg 1443684311292-187185880.jpg
