Recently picked this one up from a local coin show, what does loca toned mean? I didn't notice it until I got home, so didn't have a chance to ask the seller.
Local Oscillating Califragilistic Anomaly…(this means I haven’t a clue). Hopefully another member comes up with a better guess…Spark
I can't find anything, I wonder if it's some code for the seller re: price paid or signifying part of a collection?
It just appears to be a code the seller uses for inventory reasons.I couldn't find anything online so the only one who truly knows is the person,my LCS does the same thing.
If it's really BU I guess $5 is an OK price. The prob with the Roos set there's really no key dates. Lowest mintage is the 49-S 13M. USA Coin Book lists 3 valuable DD's. 1960 DDO 1963 DDR and 1964 DDR. The 1st one is proof only. The 2nd one is listed in MS and Proof. The last one seems to be the easiest to find in circulation and it still brings a very nice price. This toning doesn't really do anything for me. Slight album toning? No idea what LOCA means.
I think you guys are most likely correct with the code/inventory number theory. Thank you all so much for your thoughts! LOL that actually might be a good theory!
Yes, Ik. I just fell in love with the toning, and while it isn't fb, I thought it was nice enough of a coin to justify the price. Makes me want to start a dansco roosie book... just cause I'm cheap lol And yes, the coin is actually very nice in hand.
Yes sometimes coins can be difficult to photograph well, if you don't have expensive equipment. And it can look much better in hand. For $5 it's a no brainer if you like the coin. You can look at this coin for 30 years and enjoy it, and the $5 will quickly be replaced, you won't be missing $5. "OH I SHOULD HAVE NEVER SPENT THAT FIVE DOLLARS! OMG! WHAT AM I GOING TO LIVE ON?"
Potentially "Library of Coins Album" toned. ...like this one from eBay...if stored for a while or in certain environments, the album can tone the coin photo from eBay listing (not mine): https://www.ebay.com/itm/295417705246
I think you've cracked it friend.. The coins in hand definitely look to be album toned (they don't look artificial in any way, and if they did I wouldn't have bought them) Thanks for posting everyone!
I don't think album toning is considered artificial as it was not the intent to tone these coins to make them more desirable to sell.
