A fellow collector has brought this coin to my attention--that is presently available on ebay. It has a strong doubled die on the reverse, which is easy to see on the legend and the stalks of the lotus (arrows) And in the crown area, there's indications that it's a tripled die--compared to a normal crown on the bottom: Note: the coin may have been cleaned, or just rubbed during circulation. If it was scrubbed at one point, it appears to be retoning in places--just my call; you decide. Here is the obverse: As I mostly collect overdates, I wanted to pass this coin on to other collectors here. I have hidden certain details, such as the date, for a reason--so the seller isn't alerted to the variety, and so collectors here would get a chance at the coin. If you're interested in this coin, just message me and I'll provide the link.
Why block out the date? Errors like this and others are pretty common on Indian coins, including older British India pieces. Still pretty cool though.
I thought I explained why--to give a collector here the opportunity to obtain this--without the seller being the wiser. That's my practice from cherrypicking varieties--I seldom post active auctions. Anybody who wants the coin (or just see the auction) simply has to message me for the link. As I said--I'm not knowledgeable on British India coins--I don't know rarity/value. It just looked interesting to me.
