Been looking at some coins on ebarf and noticed some have a MAC sticker, and while some look somewhat professional, some look amateurish, presumably they enhanced their sticker during their existence. Do people hold these in regard, are they worth any additional premium? Or is this some sort of private individual attempting to ride coat tails of other companies that have much more acceptance in the market?
Florida firm stickering certified coins with grade enhancements (coinworld.com) Quite frankly, I had to use the google thingy. Never heard (or seen) of 'em
I would tend to agree with your assumptions, that they are trying to cash in on what CAC has built, but then I don't hold CAC with any degree of importance, even if it brings a premium to a already graded coin.
There are others that have appeal to market segments. SightWhite, WINGS, EyeAppeal (Rick Snow) to name 3, but they definitely don't have broad appeal. As with CAC, it (edit: a sticker) very much depends on the reputation of the person(s) behind them. It also depends on the meaning. 5 Full Steps is the superlative for Jefferson nickels. ANACS used to to 5.5 Full Steps as a desination of better than 5FS. But it never really caught on. So what is the value of MAC's 6FS? And their 4FS ... what's that? "He hit that ball hard enough to be a home run, but it hooked foul"????
