    Hello Aidan,
When I recently saw this coin at the Bode museum in Berlin, I was reminded of your CT thread. :) Unfortunately, I could only view one side of the coin at the museum's public display. Also , the museum did not explain the letters on the coin.

If I saw that coin on the market, I would not bid on it. The style just does not look like the ones of these I have seen and I have not seen the Sigma O above the bull. It could be a super rare alliance coin or it could be a fake. I do not know them well enough to spend the kind of money this coin would bring to be adventuresome. I have had my eye on a coin of the type in the possession of a dealer who wants a couple hundred more than I am willing to pay. He has not sold it for three years now, I have not given in.

Interesting coin, C-89 (thanks for posting it) => hmmm, but I too think that the coin looks a bit "off" ...... but hopefully the museum-dude knows his stuff?! (I hate seeing fakes, no matter what)

NOTE => ummm, but if it is genuine, then I want it!!

Perhaps it spells MO in retrograde letters (as in the cow goes moo). :D

I think this piece is a fake by the overall look of it and the horns, I compared the horns to other examples on CNG and found none that resemble that: http://cngcoins.com/Search.aspx?PAGE_NUM=&PAGE=1&TABS_TYPE=2&CONTAINER_TYPE_ID=3&IS_ADVANCED=1&ITEM_DESC=sybaris incuse&ITEM_IS_SOLD=1&SEARCH_IN_CONTAINER_TYPE_ID_1=1&SEARCH_IN_CONTAINER_TYPE_ID_3=1&SEARCH_IN_CONTAINER_TYPE_ID_2=1

Well, maybe, possibly, kind of this coin? It's got the stick horns.

Yeah I'm bringing this back, I was looking at the printed CNG auction online and found this Persian coin:

CNG describes this piece as a Achaemenid Empire. temp. Artaxerxes III to Darios III. Circa 350-333 BC. AR Tetradrachm (24mm, 15.29 g). With it's reverse design as an: incuse rectangle, containing pattern possibly depicting relief map of the hinterland of Ephesos.

I remember seeing that coin, or a similar coin (pretty cool, eh?)

    ... but I also remember seeing a comment/statement saying it was not a "for-sure"

I copied the description from CNG, it does say "possibly". But even though it's not completely an incuse design it's still very interesting.
