Hey everyone, haven't been on this site in two years, but I had to share with you my find today. I work at McDonald's and had to go up to do some paper work. I get there and one of my fellow managers is counting a drawer when they lean over to me to ask what a coin was. She had a 1953 half dollar. She said there was more so I looked in the drawer and there was $11.50 worth of them in there, all different dates. Among all them, there was also two 1943 half dollars. I snatched em all up and told her I was buying them out of the drawer. Pretty excited about this. I'm in the process of getting pictures, so I'll have them up shortly. Thanks for reading.
More than likely. If someone came in looking for em, I'd unhappily give em back, but at least they didn't end up at the bank, which is where they would have gone if I wasn't there.
It was very likely that some kid stole it from a parent. However, if it had been me, I would have offered to split it with the co-worker. Chris
I would have too, but she had no interest. She's actually my best friends girlfriend, so she knows about my collection.
Both of you are nuts! But what's the saying? Honesty is the best policy. I have seen people drop money and I always bring it to their attention.
My brother did the same thing in the late 60's...buying fireworks with silver quarters he lifted from my mother's stash. She started saving silver in 1965...I wonder where it all went?
I am glad you said this before me, because I didn't want the OP to think I am trying to ruin his fun. I know that has occurred many times.
I am curious why you have not been here in 2 years? Were you bored with it? Too busy? Or, am I too nosy? Ha, ha!
If that is truly the story, I think they would have sold the coins if they knew it was silver. Not current circulating change....
Co-worker most likely didn't have a clue.......not that most folks that work there don't have their groove together. Just the fact that most young folks who work at McDonalds could care less about collecting. Generalization, I know, and I can't statistically back it up, but you folks have been to the store. How many serious prospects of collecting do you detect there?
Congrats on the score. my best is $16 in walking liberty halves. Probably the best $11.50 you ever spent
Not that I would expect the co-worker to be a collector, but 25 half dollars at melt value represents about $137. Chris
