i think mat is correct about roman's coin, reverse would be DIANA FELIX...i think i can make out the ELIX.
Some freshly photographed Gallienuses... Mercury... Neptune... Mars... Fides... Libertas... Jupiter...

Wow very nice coins Folks... i have nearly 40 of these Gallienus coins mostly animals, which i'm using i the ABC thread so i won't double post. Gallienus 255-256 AD. Antoninianus Obv. radiate head, draped bust right. Rev. Valenian and Gallienus standing, facing. one holding Victory, the other Globe. Asian mint. 21mm x 2.91g. dessert patina. Also one i won't be posting in the ABC thread. Gallienus Tet. Eagle..
Very nice coins all! Mat introduced me to this thread and I am glad to see the wide range of reverse types and varying degrees of strike quality too. Sort of like a snapshot of my own collection.
Very nice coins everyone with some very interesting ones also. My contribution: Gallienus, AD 253-268 Billon Antoninianus, 21mm, 3.0g. Obv.: GALLIENVS AVG; Radiate, cuirassed bust right. Rev.: PAX AVG; Pax standing left, holding branch and transverse scepter, T in left field.
OP coin came in last week, but I only had a chance to image it today. I'm quite pleased with the hard-struck reverse. Probably the seller's angled image brings out the details better, but here's a true-color pic. It's quite dark...
Love the reverse. Any time the facial features are visible on the small reverse god/person, it makes it more interesting to me. I can't imagine how these dies were cut with such precision.
It seems that for most of Gallienus' Rome issues, the die-cutting maintained a rather high standard. It's the flan-preparation and striking that went down the tubes. I'd love a time machine to go back and witness exactly what was going on.
a recent addition.... Gallienus, AE antoninianus. Rome, sole reign. 257-258 AD. IMP GALLIENVS AVG, radiate, cuirassed bust right. DIANA FELIX, Diana walking right, drawing bow and holding arrow, hound at foot. RIC V-1 Rome 174 var (bust type); Goebl 920L (Milan). Note: Goebl places this coin (i.e. this obverse legend and this rev. type) under Milan, RIC places it under Rome. The letters N and M, engraved as III and IIII are characteristic of the Rome mint.
