i was asking about eagles in a separate thread. learning from you fine folk as to what a problem note is and why you should not et one I heeded your advice. could I have gotten really nice notes of these years/series in au-unc for less than I paid if they were ungraded? probably. I have to say though...having graded notes and knowing what they are graded without having to send them in myself is nice. not to mention (even though I am) the fact that I DEFINATELY don't have any buyer's remorse as I might for a beat up note. (thanks again for that advice). so without any further wait allow me to introduce the very first 2 I got and own in a respectable condition. first up we have a 1928 tate/mellon graded 64 and 2nd is a 1935H granahan/Dillon graded 67. if said anything wrong or not enough please DO correct me. thanks for looking
The Fr.1600 1928 (Funnyback) is a good choice. Usually sells for under $100 in CHCU, and the Fr.1618 1935H SC is another popular note usually available for under $40 in CHCU. Nice, safe, graded notes, but a little vanilla compared to the Black Eagle mentioned in your other thread.
a little vanilla? lol that's new to me. the eagle was a beautiful note but a little out of my range atm. almost $282 is a little rich for my blood...for now. I might try to snag and xf-au and hope I can get it for about $200. something that can appreciated by all and not break me at the same time.
You're taking my comment out of context. I said "a little vanilla compared to the Black Eagle". Side by side the Black Eagle will get more ooohhhs and aahhhh's than small size SC's mostly because the SC's are very similar to today's currency. Same size, same portrait of Washington. Your two notes are wonderful choices, affordable and typical entry type notes into collecting paper money. My intentions were not to discourage you in any way.
Great choices and wonderfully graded notes. As for the Black Eagle, stop buying, safe your money and then buy one. It's a very satisfied feeling once you buy it but it's murder waiting.
oh no steve I think something got mixed up. I don't know what the term "a little vanilla" means lol. but I think I get it now. the eagle would definitely be a far more beautiful. by no means does what you say discourage me in ANY way. I thank you for your wisdom and help
thank you. I can't stop looking at them. I am very satisfied with them. I am going to start at the bottom and work my way to the eagle and Martha. those will be the first 2 BEAUTIES I get when I get to that point but I am going after the more common notes in high grades. so pretty much starting at the least expensive notes.
I echo Steve - the Fr. 1600 was a good choice. Now you just need a Transitional (1934) and you'll have a neat little small size $1 SC short set.
Confederate States of America-what choices, varieties and history. Check it out, you'll fall in love.
the 1600 was by dumb luck. it was probably the first one I saw lol. now that I bought a book though I realize I am in a little bit of trouble. the eagle is a good example. I noticed the signatures make a HUGE difference. while the 236 speelman/white in my OLD book from 78 shows unc at 75.00 (which today would probably be $300-350 I'm guessing) it shows the 231 napier/Thompson at $600 unc which might be over $2000? my estimates are probably off but more or less the signatures are going to play a BIG part in what I will end up paying. is that fair to say?
thanks again steve. is that the fractional currency? under what section would those be listed in the book?
