Pretty coin! If you want pictures and will grade with NGC, I'd get the pics done first. NGC holder fangs aren't kind to pictures of $2½ Indians.
VERY NICE EXAMPLE!!! Toned gold is unusual and always fun to own. I know you deal with these a lot more than I, but I've only had 1 (very lightly toned) piece come into my possession and it had similar colors....reds & purples. Yours is FAR, FAR better in every way, but here was mine:
Oh man that is a beauty - for whatever reason, Indian quarter eagles seem to be a bit more prone to toning than other U.S. gold. I've got one with deep purples, but not nearly as much blue as you've got there, which is an even rarer color.
Another rookie question... Why do we like tone ? Wouldn't it look nicer plain Gold ? What is something like this worth ?
Good for you, congrats....I went and read about them and how beauty is in the eye of... How there is fake toning, etc... I would guess that the older gold ones tone, not only because of age, but the added metal. I wonder if they are 99.9% or maybe a little less, like 99.2 and the other metal is doing the toning. Congrats again...
Took a few new pics of it today with my wife's ipod touch. Brought some more color out! Still probably my favorite coin.
