Turns out the Chinese dollar is a counterfeit, it came from a large auction house so I should be able to get a refund. The others came back slightly better than expected.
There are large auction houses still selling Chinese coins raw? Would have expected by now that nearly all would be selling only NGC or PCGS graded coins given the high numbers of fakes out there.
I rarely come across fakes but I recently got hit with a 1866 BB 5 franc that pcgs said was counterfeit lucky I got my money back on the purchase. I think the coin was real gold. not sure why someone went thru the trouble to counterfeit it.
Here's a toner I just bought on Ebay that looks better in hand than in the pictures. It's nice to have an original looking coin as so many of the early Soviet pieces got cleaned and scrubbed to death .
Received a few coins (several hundred) from a friend that I'm trying to catalog & haven't been able to identify this one, weight is 1.19g & approx 16mm diameter; looks silvery in photo but believe it is copper. Any help narrowing down the coin or country would be greatly appreciated.
Here is a new one for me today, Princely state of Tonk, 1 Pice, 1350 A.H. or 1932 A.D. There are two versions of the same coin for this year, the only year of mintage. One is 26mm and the other is 21mm, mine is the larger variety.
A few Edward I pennies I just picked up. Fairly decent examples but the Canterbery has one of the better portraits you will see. I am not sure about other types of coins but the portrait on Edwardian pennies are the first to wear as it's the thickest point of the coin.
