Well, c'mon down! We will pick up a few coins together! Of course, you and I pretty much collect the same, so we can only bid the prices up higher against each other!
Coin shows are my thrill and anguish all at the same time. I love them. I hate driving to them. I a couple weeks I have one in Fredericksburg VA which I really want to visit and there is a big bike race in Richmond guaranteed to mess up the traffic all day. When I go, I will buy coins. Sometimes I get nice coins that make my favorites list and sometimes I get the sort of thing I am embarrassed to report here. Overall, they remain my favorite way of buying coins. Let us know how Charlotte is as a show. When you say 'ancients' do they think you mean buffalo nickels? Bad sign! Show is small, but there are a couple Ancients guys there. Picked up a Pompey As, an Uncia from the 2nd Punic War, and L Lucretius Trio (Winged Boy on Dolphin rev.) Not bad. Perry usually brings fresh items to the show, and has a wide range of good quality from Early Greece, RR, RE, etc. Great guy to deal with. LOL, when I DO run across Ancients at other dealers in NC, they usually state they get them from Perry... @dougsmit , I am seriously toying with invading Fredericksburg on your advice, as I understand there are few good Ancients there too. I was going to go to Gettysburg, but it is 9 hrs from me...
Al, that Brutus/Ahala denarius has been on my list for ages, but finding one that shout's "please adopt me !!!" is very tough, and...sooo expensive ! That's a very decent example you have, especially as aging gives the advantage of blurriness to scratches Q
I agree. Warren ensured the scratches were called out and were in the photos. When I received it (and I AM Near-Sighted!), I could not and cannot really see the scratches when in-hand! My wife set up my camera as a macro-mode, and I have noted it captures EVERYTHING on my coins. This Brutus/Ahala is a GREAT coin in hand! You virtually see NONE of the scratches with your eye. NO-ONE has that good of eyes to see the scratches like my camera does. I really like this coin!
I can see why you like it. I want it!!!! And you're right. The camera shows everything. Hey, I look at pics of me and wonder how that old ugly guy from my mirror gets in those pics every time.
LOL!!! Ditto...we ALL look like we are 20 years old...in our minds as well as our perceptions! My 80yo mother taught me that one when I asked her on her 75th as to how she felt!
LOL, yeah, but I am a PowerShopper whenever I go anywhere. I do NOT like shopping, however, I enjoy reviewing/looking at coins and a few other hobbies I approach. I drove 2 hrs., was at the show for a little over an hour. But, I surgical-strike my prey and then I am done. Kinda like the hunter/military approach 99% research/recon and stealth, 1% STRIKE.
Best of luck AL and enjoy the show!!! By the way, I just increased my maximum bid on Republican Denarii of Sulla and Cassius!!! So we'll see what happens....
OH YEAH! Another show update: Since I really enjoy Roman Republic, I espied an Aes Grave! VG/FINE condition! Only $3,900...GULP... nope...nope.. Just like 1st Prez Bush said: "Nope, not gonna do that..." not now... But, me really liked that! Libral POUND, size of the palm of my hand! LOL.
Yup! And like we talked about before: ENJOY IT FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE!!! NUTHIN wrong with being 20! I am plus 36 times enjoying it again! BTW, Great Avatar! Great play on the Russian name Laika dog!
