    Hi folks,
I know other "Black Beauties" have been posted on CoinTalk over the years but I wanted to share my recent acquisition of this 1959 5C Improperly Annealed Planchet Error.

For any newbies who have never heard of this error here is the info - (I want to share this webpage with you) http://www.error-ref.com/improper-annealing/ with a great story with Mike Diamond.

Very nice. I have always had an interest in error coins. And just picked up a broad struck Lincoln .

Paddy, I'll have to be on the lookout for this as it's an error I don't have and your examples are quite nice.

That's great. It's a little bit hard to find these in circulation. I have seen threads where other members have asked if they might have one but it turns out to be Environmental Damage. I just posted these pictures on another thread of an Environmental Damaged Kennedy I found this past Labor Day while metal detecting. It kind of looks Improperly Annealed but it's not! Good luck on your search!

Improperly Annealed coins are interesting, but I never sought any for my collection. So, you were metal detecting? Fun! Any particular places you like to search? What is your favorite item ever found while detecting?

Best item ever? A nice 10K Gold braclet last fall. I have a huge public park across from where I live here in Manhattan NYC. I always find many coins there. I recently started beach detecting for the first time which has produced many coins. But I'm going to wait for cooler weather to do more of that. Too HOT! This was at Brighton Beach at Coney Island in Brooklyn this past month, it was a 5 hour search -

I have noticed a lot of nickels dated 1958 and 1959 that are improperly annealed. Is there any reason for is?

Wow, cool! My brother in law, and his brother went detecting at an old farm house years ago here in MN and found numerous buffalo nickels, mercury dimes, some walking lib. halves, and dozens of wheat cents. They always tell me to search around beaches, abandoned homes etc.
