Stacey Lee Webber is a talented artist who uses American coins to create sculptures of ordinary hand tools.

You can see some of her creations at this website.

More examples of her work can be seen at her own website. Tools made of pennies may be seen here. Tools made of silver coins may be seen here.

They just kept getting better. I was sort of blown away by the tape measure made out of roosevelt dimes. I wonder if it's functional? Either way, kudos to her. Lots of creativity and different techniques needed to work those coins into her art.

One way to look at it is that it is creating art. However, as numismatist we have to consider that those coins are gone for good.

    Mmmmm... I'm torn.

If the coins are common/worn and have been checked by an expert before going to her, what a lovely way of creating new beauty from old. On the other hand, if there could be rarities in there, what a waste. It is such a shame when old coins are just melted down to be turned into cheap or mass produced jewelry- this is a much more effective way of preserving the coins which hold little numismatic interest to collectors and giving them a new lease of life. Dependent on the above, she has my approval and I applaud her creativity and craft skill. These will be treasured by their new owners, I wish I were among them.
