Wow, cool stuff. We are simpatico - about the only thing that interests me other than ancients are various kids of token coinage, mostly HTT's and CWT's.
Yes, we are! I want to get into Civil War sutler tokens but it's a little much for me right now. My earliest token goes back to the Spanish-American War.
Well everyone seems to be some type of science person. In my profession we have tried to turn lead in to gold for centuries. The task was finally completed in my home town in the mid 19th century with the invention of this device. I have decided to dedicate the rest of my life to propelling large objects over great distances...oh and telling people where to stick it.
Um, not sure how to respond to the nerd aspect of this thread. My degrees are in accounting and Finance, and I am currently a Doctoral student. Is that nerdy enough? Not sure if you science nerds "give props" to business nerds.
I don't have a big master's degree like Steve but I do have a bachelor's of science degree in engineering. Computer Science specifically. Pretty sure that makes me a de facto nerd. I even have a pocket protector around here somewhere. My physics nerd cred is somewhat diminished by the fact that I got a C in physics, but I enjoyed it and knew the material fairly well, I was just lazy when it came to writing lab reports.
I was required to read some of the "Physics" in college and did not understand it well. There is easier Greek. Later I was introduced to the "Metaphysics" which was a bit more obtuse. Such was my time with Aristotle. My grandson is taking science in middle school. The one thing that strikes me about what he studies is how much of it has changed since I was in school. The scientific gospel of the 1960's is something of a footnote now. At least Aristotle is still there to show that there are better things to argue about than whether Pluto is a planet or not.
9 planets people....9! From what I read the universe is expanding at a ever increasing speed..but our solar system is going other way?
I was always curious: Did Pythagoris, Aristotle, and/or Plato have a degree, and from what Universities?
Aristotle studied at Plato's Academy: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Platonic_Academy This is widely considered to be the first "university." Plato learned directly from Socrates. Pyhtagoras influenced them both. He most likely received private tutoring, and later started a school for his students.
