I am speaking with my emotions and its all to do with errors and all you error collectors:( my mind has came to a hault because it knows something, well i know it also but i am not going to tell you guys. What i need first to know from all espically from the experts it is very important. You all are but being that an expert has been in this hobby the longest and should know everything with taking a lot of time of studying errors it became part of your lifes for the one just started it will become part of yours also. "Cause no matter how much i want to quit i cant, its just a mystery to me"
Like i was saying my mind came to a hault because of my down emotions(sad, depressed and ect.) took control of me thats a good thing, it shows that i am not just thinking of myself anymore i am thinking of the fun and exciting things you all get to have in these errors! Even more on how it will effect some of you....ok now i am just stopping these emotions and just say what i want from you.

Try to speak with your emotions(feelings) please. If you would tell or show someone the truth which will effect there lives or would you just ignore what you can prove is right and let someone countinue having fun in what they are doing and join them?

Then after you truely tell me how you feel about it i will tell you why my mind came to a hault.

Dont think to much in to this topic.

To me, your mind missed the bus about three blocks back. If you would just eliminate all of the "I'm feeling down, but please don't kick me!" dialogue and just try to learn to discuss errors and varieties with logic and an understanding of the minting process, you might attract more listeners and respondents.

Otherwise, you're likely to get more "Oh no! Not again!" responses.

I don't think emotions should be in the mix when discussing numismatics. Like Chris said it's about logic, and also scientific and factual data. Our hobby for the most part deals with tangible things. Our personal feelings are intangible things. "Speaking with your emotions" seems like something that gets in the way of thinking clearly.
Maybe you would better enjoy a hobby like fine art or poetry, where it's more about emotions and sensations and less about logic and science.

I have never learned anything from posting and telling folks what I think I know.
We learn from reading and asking logical and understandable questions.
Learning the minting process takes time and there is always more to learn.

I would never let my mind come to a halt. I can't say I'm smarter or better than anyone but I can say that I am willing to learn, teach, discuss, agree, disagree and argue (in a good way) almost any subject. That is what keeps my mind active and healthy!

Don't worry everyone Daniel Jones will be around soon to respond to this thread

Well, emotions/desire does factor into numismatics to some degree, otherwise, there would be no fun in collecting. Judgement also must factor into it, otherwise we make too many mistakes.

Emotions and desire certainly are part of what drives us to be in this hobby, as with any other hobby. But when it comes to discussing and understanding why things are what they are, how they became what they are, and how to tell the difference between what they are and what they are not... emotions need to chill on the sideline for a bit :)

We have all seen what happens when people don't know when to separate the two. Remember Redwin and his 11-cent piece? lol

Life is not a perfect triangle. At one tip is Religion, at another, Home and the last tip is Work. If one of these gets out of whack, just a little, it puts a strain on the other two. You have to balance them out, constantly. Your mind never stops working, not even when you're asleep. If it did, you'd be dead.

God gave us emotions and He can not look at evil. Therefore, every emotion you have is good, yes even anger. Remember, Jesus through the money changers out of the Temple but yet He remained sin free. Anger is a good emotion but we are taught otherwise, The problems lies in What do you do with that anger? Your response is either good or bad but you can not turn off your emotions.

Some things in life happen and your emotions take over but you can't let them rule or run your life. You have to keep them under control. Yes, my emotions surface when I look at a pristine coin or make a purchase. It's that way with every emotion.

Get a grip on what's happening in your life, accept the reality of it and then change it. Only you can change. No one can change for you. Best wishes teachmind.

Welcome insights! If I can add to it, I would just say each mind develops according to countless events/activities within the brain, body, and throughout existence, which explains why some people (like me ha, ha) are mellow while others are wired up

I had a hard time understanding your intent after the first read, but now I think I get it.

If someone else enjoys what they believe to be error coins, as long as they are not risking their safety or their financial security, why burst their bubble?

This would hold especially true of someone is finding coins at face value that they believe to be errors, there's little harm in letting them believe they are special.

On the flipside, if they have spent good money on, or sold non-errors as errors, it's important to set them straight to minimize the damage.

I don't know about that since, for the most part, the acquisition of a coin has more to do with emotion than anything else.
You know, the "gotta have it" emotion?

For the most part that is.

    Is "passion" an emotion? Desire?

I have bought many coins "with my gut" instead of my head, and don't regret many of them. However error coins is a sub-set that requires intellectual questioning and understanding of the minting process to tell what is a real error and what is just post-minting-damage (PMD). You REALLY have to accept that or you are in for a very hard and disappointing time. Good luck...sincerely.

in honesty , the long durational search to find errors , in boxes is kinda boring , and buying the certified on auctions is expensive.. and time consuming if your looking for specific coins to fill (lets say a classic 1972 ddo /ddr type set) but its fun, and lucrative in some aspects.... and as far as your question goes be honest with your friend, mate or whom ever.. if you see they are splurging and destroying there investment / hobby then give them kind hearted advice.. i understand the addiction , thats why i still delve into boxes of lincolns from the bank just to get my coin fix without really spending..lol
