Over the past couple years searching rolls of pennies. I've come up with some interesting finds. I found 1906 indian head cent about 2 years ago in the the pass year a 1929 A.U. cent. That went in my penny book I usually get 10.00 at a time. On occasions maybe 50.00. Out of 20 rolls I may get 10 wheat cents, with D and S mint marks. Sometimes less My favorite rolls to look through are the ones people wrap themselves. Just a few weeks ago I found nickels and dimes in several rolls
One of my customers bought a roll of pennies off of eBay a few weeks ago. Mostly wheat's but he did find 4 Indians and 1 $2.50 Gold piece. What a bargain! I do the same thing as Francis, go to the bank and buy $10.00 at a time. The girls at my bank love me so they save the silver and wheat pennies, old nickels, etc. I get them at face value. It pays to be nice to people.
i also get pennies at the bank, usually a brick of them. as i think that as in canada the penny will soon be a thing of the past i go thru them, pulling the copper as well as the wheat, i have found a few indian heads as well as some old wheat pennies. also get rolls of nickels at the bank, have found quite a few war nickels, a v nickel, and a lot of late thirties thru forties. also have found dimes, even a nickel and a septa bus token stuffed in a penny wrapper. some of the pennies have errors. what started as a casual hobby has become almost an obsession.
Yea, I know everyone knows the math. Especially you Rick since you are sooo smart . I just like the dramatic effect of saying 1300 pennies! Stories are better when exaggerated.
Make that $3 more dollars for a total of 1600 pennies! I admit, I am uncontrollably addicted. I think I need to seek help for this obssession, haha.
When I am in the mood for searching, I always ask for customer wrapped rolls. Most people empty their coin jar and roll them up without paying attention to anything but the count. I think that the odds of finding 'treasures' are better that way.
Well ive went through over 1.1 millions coins so far this year so dont feel so bad about over doing it.
