Thanks for the advice guys. I'll file for a return but this one would have been pretty much on me if the jar came unbroken. Live and learn, I guess. It seems like there are no good places to get deals on coins. Even on Ebay people bid up coins way past their value.
If you're looking to buy a lot of coins and find a diamond in the rough there are places you can do that. eBay is one of them, estate sales, garage sales, auctions. Just don't go for the "unsearched lots". In this case you would have been better off taking the money to a coin show and buying a couple nice coins from a reputable dealer. Don't give up, as your knowledge grows the opportunities to find coins will too! Take some of your refund money and buy some books on your series of interest, read, read, read. Become more knowledgable than several of the dealers in your one specialty. Then YOU can cherry pick the deals.
Yeah. Just like the roll sales showing an s on the reverse of a wheatie on the roll end with the caption "unsearched"
