Ok. So I am about to start sortingy coins by denomination and by date....I just read "How to strike it rich with pocket change" and a sentence in the book saying "chances are when you first start off looking at coins, you can't believe how many errors your finding, why hasn't anyone found these yet?im rich! "

Yeeeeahhh. So obviously i now know the 50 coins i had set aside are just normal errors worth little to nothing LOL
SO ANYWAYS! I am wondering whats the best way to sort your coins? Like...where would i put them? Just in piles? How do you store them in little groups like that?
There has to be an easier or better way than ziploc bags like I was planning on doing. ...right?

So you remembe what you did on that one special FIRST day of looking through and sorting coins? I would love to just hear the stories too :)

Also, what do you do with coins that should basically go in a "Junk Pile"?
    Keep/save them or ...?

I started putting everything in plastic coin tubes, by year, eventually wanting to have about 50 decent coins per year. I've only started with cents and nickels so far. The rest end up where they find themselves, less they belong in a folder. Or you can do it like my dad did and put everything in a box:

And then I continued the trend with my own:

looking at that I wouldn't know where to start.
    :)

seriously, as you stated, sort them by denomination, then variety, then date.

I would get some folders and start from there.

My dad got me my first coin folders for around 3 dollars a piece, which I filled with pocket change.

His father bought his first folders at 39 cents a piece, which he filled with pocket change.

Fast forward to now, I STILL use folders and fill them up with pocket change :p

just dedicate a closet, screw the door shut, and cut a slot at the top. Sort them by the order you put them in...first ones will be on the bottom.

I bought a bag of 50,000 pennies and bought plastic cups. I divided my coins by decade and then by year and put year into each cup. I have filled numerous littleton folders with the coins but I do not have a lot of the key coins. Then I bought another bag of pennies and then another and then another. Right now I have 7 bags , 3,500,000 coins awaiting my cups.. The worst coins I had in the cups from the first 2 bags I did was bagged and given bag to the bank for someone else to have fun with.

Still have lots of coins to go through. I did buy nickels and dimes at 15,000 at a time but the pennies were all the most fun.
