I like looking through the junk bins on dealers tables when things is slow at the show. Not much activity at the Melville (NY) show......normally the hall is filled to capacity but summer vacations must have weighed heavy today.....clearly half of the hall was unoccupied by dealers. So I pulled up a chair at this dealers table (Paul, I believe) and started going through his pile of 'junk'. He graciously offered me an empty box to cast away my culls/rejects. Nothing fancy, nothing spectacular.......just some cheap fun.
@cladking ........lets see if we can get this fellow in here to shed a little more light on things. The quarters and half's look divine.
The P quarter looks great but may be a misaligned die so the top wouldn't be as well struck. There might be a little marking on it as well. I can see enough of it to know it's very good for the date. The Denver half looks like a winner.
I saw this coin added to the $20 junk silver dollar bin. I picked it up and couldn't let it go. I know it's harshly cleaned, but you could watch the sun set in the observe. It's well struck, but she lived a rough life. I still think she is a keeper.
yes it is an S. There are 3 S mintmarks listed in Breen: Minute S Small S Tall narrow S - Breen says Rare.
You guys are funny on your threads sometimes. i do read a lot and don't post. especially knowing the knowledge here. Curious if any of you have met, had a get together, etc... Big site and country wide, so i would guess not. They do it quite a bit on the Florida Sportsmans page. When narrowed to one state, it is a little easier...
Sir, thanks for your response... No, we don't get together, but I feel like I know some of these guys better than my own family. Great group of guys and some of us share certain things, advice, buying tips, etc. It is really tough to "crack the code" will have ya, as to be part of this tight nit group. Just in nature, coins guys are very private, loners as some may say. I don't feel like i am a loner, but at times, I hear family members "you need to get out more" I am happy at home, why would I want to go out, other than to get more coins ! I have been retired now for 15 years. I like coming here and talking about coins. And I loath the guy that comes in here once in a while, has some smart azz comment, or thinks he knows something about a certain coin. I hate even more the guy that get's lucky and finds a coin worth thousands without an ounce of work. That drives me crazy, and i want to just reach into my computer, grab the guy by his shirt and punch him ! It is nutz for us that work so hard and get little and some schmuck finds a double die at 7-11. Anyway, Brian, welcome again to the site. Hope it helps, and I will be sure to let you know when the next presidential coin set comes out... Top secret stuff you know... You have to earn your way into the Circle of trust... Don't be a focker !
Well I thought this was going to be a thread where everyone showed off the "junk bin" finds. Sorry for the hijack. Very nice finds indeed green18. ☺️
