    All,

About to liquidate all of my Royal Canadian Mint products with a Canadian Coin shop. They do operate on PayPal.

Anything to be aware of when dealing internationally?

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

Make sure to check your exchange rates before making any transactions.

Would PayPal convert the currency for me? I would want him to make a USD offer.

Make sure you ship via a service which provides tracking both in the States and in Canada, and insure as needed.

There is usually a higher percent taken when they do the exchange rate for you. I have bought a few times from ebay sellers there, and sold once I believe. I think the fee was higher. Just double check.

Ship it Registered Mail. It's safer and requires a signature for delivery. Make sure you have a written agreement, including returns, refunds, shipping, exchanges rates and everything that other members have said above.

I use 3rd Party Insurance. I can ship FedEx International. And it will get to my buyer's location before I die.

    Direct through the shop.

FedEx International should be good. It's covered on Ship and Insure. I'm thinking its worth $3-$3.5k. Nothing crazy.

I couldnt do what you do. One day i'd get a padded envelope in my hands and i would feel the round shape inside, and before you know it, the post office would fire me lol

I think that across the board, you will get much less for the RCM stuff than you paid. Not only was RCM stuff sold at a steep premium but what you get will have depreciated further, because of the exchange rate and the Canadian dollar being so low. The "official" exchange rate right now(0430 EST) is $1.3083 and Paypal will probably give you higher than $1.36, maybe even $1.40. With a $1.30 exchange rate, $5000 Canadian would get you $3846 US. With a $1.36 exchange rate (if Paypal will even give you that), you would get $3676, or about $200 less US.

They would do worse than that.

    Ship it Registered Mail.

US Registered Mail gets no special treatment outside USA. It is also very slow indeed inside the US.

Depending on the province, the buyer will have import sales tax to pay. This can be from 0 to 15%. I am sure they know about this and are discounting their offer to allow for it.

Paypal is the worst possible way to get paid. The best is a Canadian Postal Money Order in US dollars, widely available in Canada and cashable in US post offices, although there is almost certainly some upper value limit. They can also be paid into your bank account. Canadian buyers can also pay with Canadian bank checks in US dollars, but ensure these are drawn on a US based bank, then it can simply be paid into your bank account like any domestic check.

Virtually anything except Canadian Tyre money is better for a seller than Paypal. It is sad how brainwashed ebay has made people regarding Paypal. Great for buyers, terrible for sellers if there is any alternative.

He actually mentioned he has a US checking account.

Should I just take a check from him?

I did not say 'Paypal is Bad', I said it is bad for sellers because every sale is in effect 'on approval'. A PP sale can be reversed for months for any reason or none, effectively, although usually it will not be. For buyers it is good, and it is handy for sellers where statistically, the convenience for small transactions outweighs the modest risks and costs.

For seller with larger transactions, the cost for this deal on the figures mentioned could be $100. A routine banking transaction could bring this down to near zero.

This would cost you just about nothing and you can hold off shipping till the check clears.

Great. We could just do it by check then.

    Thanks for the insights!

That's because it's the safest way to ship anything. Slow but safe! Written records of every movement in shipping.

Inside the USA, certainly. Outside the USA it is just regular mail. The risk of loss of regular mail is minimal, but you are not getting anything for your money once the mail leaves the US. Many Americans seem to think that the USPS is worldwide. It is not, and although there are international standards for mail covering all manner of aspects of handling and delivery, US Registered Mail is not covered by any UPU convention, so any special treatment it gets is purely domestic.

Any US Registered Mail items I have had at home in England are simply dropped through the letter box with the rest of the post.

So much fraud involving checks these days. Make sure your bank verifies everything before you ship the items.
