OK, I am used to grading these at AU55 or below but here is my opinion. MS 63 for the first. Is it me or is there a small amount of wear on the second? I am thinking maybe a details grade AU-58 or UNC maybe.

I think the '93-CC is AU58. The '89 has surfaces that bother me.

    Sounds reasonable. Good luck!

I beg to differ . . . the TPG's are extremely critical grading very high value dates such as the '89-CC. If you want to see evidence of that, check out the '89-CC dollars in Coinfacts, and see how desirable the numerous MS61 examples are compared to the same grade in more common dates.

I asked him, not you, lol. But really, I wanted to see just one example of what he meant by "light hairlines" often knocking MS64s down to MS61.

At any rate, on these three coins you show, I don't even need to see them in-hand, John. These are quality auction photos. All three coins are undergraded. Make them common-dates, and see it. They're not being graded on the same standards. These were held to higher standards.

Here, give this the perusal. Note the same evidence of die-porousness on the forehead as on Jason's coin:

Note the link, CoinFacts, and the grade, PCGS MS64. I agree with the grade. I'd tell you what I think happened, but only if it were my last day on CoinTalk, lol, so I shan't.

A lot of the time "MS-61" is sort of a code for a really nice AU-58.

The examples that messydesk cited are valid. Here is another one that is not "baggy" but has some light scuffing which limits the grade:

After looking at some other certified examples, I think your coin could possibly grade as high as MS-63, so long as it isn't determined to be cleaned and doesn't have hairlining that doesn't show in the pictures.

My apologies for the delay in updating this topic. The 1893-CC graded MS63 . As for the 1889-CC it graded MS61.

While the grade was far from what I thought it would be I am happy enough with the results. (I'm kind of embarrassed since I am usually spot on with my Morgan grades but you win some & you lose some.) I did say it was going to PCGS but in light of my recent video postings it ended up going to NGC for certification. Anyway here is the pic of the 1889-CC in its plastic tomb.

    Take Care -

I find that interesting. I can see the 93 as a 63, but I figured if the 89 graded it would have been better than the 93. Hmmm - luster or is it really an AU coin? Not sure myself. Still nice couple of coins.

They both graded, and they both graded uncirculated. Can't complain about that.

The '89 looks like it has been baking soda cleaned...I enlarged it as best I could and Anna's face looks pretty rugged.

I'm with everyone else with a high grade on the '89, but please help the newbie here and tell me how the '93 would grade so high. I assume the marks over the face and neck are all bag marks, am I correct? The areas on the bonnet look like dings. Also starting at the top of P L U is that a die-crack ? Don't get me wrong I really like the coin.
