With all of the publicity and controversy surrounding accugrade I couldnt resist this when i spotted it in a dealers case yesterday. Is this the 1st gen accugrade slab?? I tried to look it up b4 posting with no luck. Also, i dabbed white-out on the grade. That way if you are inclined to do a gtg, you can try your luck
Its called a photo-slab, the coin pictured is the coin in the holder.... I guess you could call this a transition between photo-certs and the slabs we use today. Supposedly accugrade was THE 1st company to use slabs and thats why i was checking to see if this is version 1.0 which would date it to 1984(?) Wheres conder? He IS mr slab
Hey I remember a guy with a coin (or was it two coins) that was in an acugrade slab. He sure was proud of it. I wonder if he ever got his asking price.
Are you talking about Redwin?? When i tried researching this thing on CT about 100 of his posts/quotes popped up lol
And another darn thing, numismedia lists this coin @ $47.50>ms66 and $400>ms67 that for some reason doesnt seem right to me... THAT MUCH $$$$ FOR A BLUE IKE?
If it's a true condition rarity, the registry guys will pay stupid premiums. To each their own, but I don't get it.
Yeah, sort of like how a 1974-S clad in PF69 is $40 and in PF70 is $10000. In other words you could have 250 PF69s or one PF70... people be crazy for them registry sets!
Well, the plot just thickened. This coin is listed in coin world for $125 in ms66 $375 in ms67.... wth???..... forget the gtg......you folks are looking at a $125 coin...... and there is little green men dancing around it and showering it with gifts and singing songs too
That is a promotional slab, not the ACG label. I haven't seen those done before. Style-wise that is ACG5 (Condor's plate coin is an Ike btw). The distinguishing mark is the two sided coin photo. These were the last of the photoslabs, although there are some oddballs from later on (I posted Frankenslab a couple weeks ago).
Thx 4 the info Burton, i really dont quite understand what you mean by promotional slab though? Are you saying you have never seen one like this before?? Is it possibly unique?? I had a heck of a time trying to find another acg example online and the 1 or 2 i did find had that weird grading system on the reverse with letters/#s
