I don't think that phoenix reverse was issued for Constantine I.

Another thing I dislike about NGC's slabs... scant information. There's room for a full attribution on the label if they used a smaller font.

The OP coin looks like an older slab, or else from a bulk grade submission.

No, just Constans and Constantius II, but somebody said Phoenix on Pyre so I instinctively posted, lol.

Look I'm a 75% modern coin collector, and maybe 25% Roman collector. I used to be into them a lot. I wasn't trying to start another Punic war over this coin. I just wanted to know what Red Follis meant, and I got my answer. So thanks everyone.

No offense intended by any of this, HAB. We often go off on tangents so if our continued dialog isn't relevant to you, don't sweat it :). You have a lovely coin; grade or slab doesn't matter if it is something you like.

I also do not prefer raw coins. I prefer all mine slabbed. That's just me though. I'm gone through everything in my collecting years to being stuck with a counterfeit Caligula big head, to having a F-en 34 s peace dollar lost in the mail. Which sucked, sucked, sucked! So you can never be to careful.

We may keep talking here which may or may not interest you, but I, for one, would like to see the reverse.

Everything is fine, except that 34 s peace dollar. There was no excuse for that. I know they delivered to the wrong house and the ancidental recipients kept it. Wouldn't you lol?

Me too! I'm frustrated that the slab doesn't indicate the reverse type. I looked up the cert number and even searched for other slabbed examples of the type (-001, -002, etc) but none of them had more information or images.

NO!!! I would not. I have been told that I'm honest to a fault. I would never knowingly keep something that didn't belong to me (read steal) from another.

I am surprised that nobody here recognized that this is a pre-Vagi era NGC slab, and thus pretty much complete crap. HAB, to put it in more modern terms, prior to a few years ago NGC ancients slabs were about as useful as any of the alphabet soup slabbers that crop up on ebay. Since then, they've hired real professionals to grade and ID the coins and redesigned the slabs to give them a better view of the coins and a more detailed ticket.

Whether or not you like the practice of slabbing, you must admit its an improvement over these earlier generation of slabs.

Ardy, I don't think many of us here own slabs, so we aren't in touch with the history and styles. :D

    Yeah, I wouldn't know a pre-Vagi slab from a slab of ham.

Well, I would probably know a slab of ham. Hmmm.....

Odd: Me-learning mode... I went and looked it up also...why does NGC NOT show a pic? Isn't that what the service is for?

Ardatirion pointed out that it is one of NGC's older slabs. Maybe images weren't routine at that time.
