Yep, definitely something to consider. All these different sets hold the keys to different series, so each have their own claim to fame. However, it may take time for them to attain greatness, as the money does appear to chase the latest issue.
Shipped, along with a 5-ounce Blue Ridge Parkway, NC puck, ordered with the Eisenhower Dollar. Who would ever think that a 5-ounce silver coin would command less aftermarket value or attention to a collector than a base metal dollar?
I'm going to hold on to my 1 set as long as I can. For a person on s.s. $200.00 is a lot of money. BUT if I were to sell and the value goes to let's say 2 grand 2 yrs from now I'd never be able to stop thinking of what a fool I was.
Be sure to check your Ike medals in your C&C sets for a finned rim error. Several posters ion another site ae reporting this error. No photos available. Some of these can be quite valuable. TC
I was primarily interested in the silver medal, so I will probably just pick that up after the fact. That's what I did with the FDR set, since I do not care about the dollars. The medals from broken up sets can be had for under $30 raw. I did get the Truman set just because I found one priced comparatively low and had eBay bucks to throw at it.
I do like the reverse of the medal. The obverse is ok. Ike looks a little bit like Don Rickles...lol.
@McBlzr, I sure hope that fingerprint is on the capsule, although the way it shows up in multiple pictures it does make it look like it's on the medal itself?
I was in a hurry to take the pics. I thought there were some bad spots on the dollars & medals. So I opened the capsules carefully. Poor quality capsules, scratches, dings, and finger smudges on the plastic capsules. I will try for better pics tomorrow.
Photo's 5 and 6 highlight the bea.............I mean ugliness of the Reverse Proof. Very little detail is discernible on the bust and I'm thinking that it would have been an immensely more attractive coin had they done an Enhanced Uncirculated version of the Eisenhower Dollar.
