Could I add this next to my lower than 1 troy ounce gold bars for assetts or is it pure numismatic value ?

    Thanks guys.

this is such a cool looking coin. what is the numismatic value on this coin ? the numismatic value on it I would put on it would be priceless from what I took away from it. interesting old coin + it's gold. 1 I would love to show off.

I don't have any gold medieval coins, but I would be a bit shocked if the numismatic value wasn't far higher than the actual gold content----but that's why I compare the market values of similar types on acsearch and many other web sites....

Have you had it assayed or XRF tested to be just over 16 Carat gold?

I'd keep as numismatic. The value is in the coin not the weight at current prices. When gold goes up, and it will, the price will go up with gold. Not just because of the price of gold but because of the coin itself. Very nice.

No, my research into those norman issues just states that all gold tari during Roger 2 were 16 1/3 karat..

Where exactly have you seen these values ? That, the source of the values, is what determines if the values are realistic or not. And if they are, then you already know what the coin is worth.

Ive seen those prices on ebay for what they have sold previoulsly

Well, the thing about ebay is that there are a whole lot of people who bid on and buy coins on ebay who have little to no idea about what they are doing. In other words they know very little about coins and what they are actually worth. So when they buy coins, they often pay way too much. And if they are paying too much then the realized prices you find on ebay are not reliable data points.

If you want reliable data, then use the two links I gave you in the other thread and forget about ebay.
