Yeah, that's the way the ball bounces, no reason to try to guilt trip anyone. Not to be cold, but your nephew will be alright. All kids need to learn about acceptance. Besides, you shouldn't have built up the idea of the purchase in his mind, until the purchase was a done deal
I'm interested to hear more of your opinion on this subject matter. Why do you think Ike is worth more?
With a lower household limit, the Ike set was more dispersed among collectors than the Truman set. In other words, dealers have less stock to sell which can increase prices. Same thing happened to 1999 Silver Proof Set. Also, Ike was a popular president and had a coin series (Ike dollars), which may bring in more demand for the set. The medal in the Ike set is nicer than the Truman set and this could make a difference as well.
This is an entirely entertain-able concept. Should someone put purchase power into these sets, and let's say the numbers are as low as the Mint claims, they could realize most likely at least a lion's share of the available products. Once the inventory is 'suppressed' into private storage, how long before this reverse proof begins to see serious scarcity increments in the graded census? A patient man (or woman) could slowly sell off single pieces at huge gains, probably for quite some time, before the jig would be up so to speak... Oh wait.. this already exists. Damn you Heritage Auctions..
See my post #114. I told people 7-8 am over the next few days, especially Saturday, is the time to check. Congrats! TC
I am not bitter but I don't like the idea of the big company's increasing the hype to get these coins. It's no different from the coin company's hiring unemployed people to stand in line at the Chicago show increasing the hype and making the real collectors miss the opportunity to get a coin at US mint prices. Keep reading about the collectors son or daughters who are disapointed because daddy didn't get one. I for one feel sorry for the collectors who missed out most of these were affordable. However now with the increased hype these collectors will not get one. As for the Chicago show I traveled across the country and went to the show. I arrived two hours before the show started but with the rush of the stooges entering the show hired by the coin company's I was pushed out of getting a coin to add to my complete set. Yes the greed was high at this show the dealers wer all lined up at the US Mint booth paying the increased prices for the people they had stand in line. It is true I was pushed out of getting a coin which I would have graded at the show. The real disapointment came because I invested over a thousand dollars traveling to the show with Hotel and gas bills. I was a real collector, the dealers did push me out of getting a coin because of their greed. I do believe that the greedy dealers are increasing the hype by getting around the rules the mint set up by hiring buyers. I do believe they are doing this because they can make money. The big coin dealers are basicly buying up all the stock and selling them for BIG money. 1300 for a pf70. The lesson for the junior collectors is to be dishonest and greedy.
No idea, but my best guess is that their system kicks out the problem orders and reconstitutes overnight.
Have you ever seen them become available during the day or is it a waste of time to check every 15mins?
I have seen some items in the past become available during the day, but would not waste my time. Check in again between 7-8am ET over the next few days, especially this Saturday. This pattern of availability was seen for both the MOD set and the Truman set this year. Good luck! TC
Same with the enhanced Native American coin and currency set. I missed the first day offering but was able to pick up a few when the mint offered them for sale again in the limited time window that you indicated.
They are not getting around anything friend since they are paying $125 per set which is double the issue price and then some. They are simply being a proactive business that has employees that have Jobs at MCM and have Families to feed. MCM does not get preferential treatment from the US Mint and they have to work just as hard as everybody else to get their orders. Even if they have to volunteer to place your order for you because you or some other customer might be at work! You do realize that like any business there are times when MCM doesn't make any money but STILL has to pay their employees a wage? I don't fault them for trying to take advantage of the situation that the US Mint created out of their own ignorance.
Yet............despite your disappointment that you couldn't get one in Chicago, that very coin is available today at below issue price. So much for that theory...........
These could be legitimate defective sets that the mint destroyed or maybe not. Interestingly, when I picked up more Truman sets after the first sale day, I noticed that MOD sets could also be ordered again months after release and well after their site noted product unavailable. I did not order more MOD sets because I had already ordered my limit of 5 on day 1.
I do it's greed they had 100's of auctions then they ran one auction with over 132 sets. With at least 20 pf70 sets. I wont ever buy from them again. Their founder of the company JM was disgusted how the dealers were pushing out the average collector. I spoke with him and he posted on a couple blogs that he would never treat his customers that way. But alas he sold his company. As for the gold Kennedy. I would have had two show labels not the regular early release. The show label would have been nice if i could have graded it myself. But I will never buy the hyped label from the grading company's. I did eventualy get my set of kennedy's complete. But I wasted 1200.00 going to the show which I wont go to again. selling over a couple hundred sets is wrong this auction had 133 sets. http://www.ebay.com/itm/2015-Coin-C...ER-SKU36468-/131554097983?hash=item1ea13c3b3f
