The Mint has just announced adjusted numbers for the Truman set: now 16,803. They also just released initial sales for the Ike set: currently 16,820. And the low mintage RP winner will be? Who cares?...lol
To all the collectors that got them - congrats. To all the scalpers that did this for profit - I got to tell my nephew that he wasn't getting his. There's a disappointed young numismatist sitting at home now with a frown on his face. Nice job ruining it. Sleep well...
Really? You're one of the biggest defenders of extreme capitalism on CT! I didn't get any either, but that's what you have to live with under extreme capitalism - ain't nothin fair about it, it's dog eat dog. Tell your nephew that. Now, go get him one from eBay, like I'm probably going to do.
Im in since I survived the last two sales. Would you believe Modern coin mart sent emails to all of their customers to try and buy them on the secondary market. I was disgusted, let me say they were offering but I refused to do it. I'll copy and past the despicable Email. The coin companys are greedy and ripping off their very own customers. John would have never stooped to this level too bad he sold it out to Gov Mint
Wait a spell Bret. They'll be selling in the aftermarket for a small premium over issue price in a few months. Just gotta be patient. Sorry you and the nephew didn't get one.
They get around it I will keep pasting this email I got from MCM. The coin companies are ripping off their very own customers. Did you see how many Trumans MCM had for sale on ebay????? WOW. John Maden sold the company to Govmint.com. John refused to be a part of the Kennedy circus at the CHicago show. But alas he no longer is control there. Silver Towne was the worst during the Chicago show. Never Liked Govmint. Now they own MCM. Are ther any respectable dealers out there???? 1.941.907.8050 1.800.362.9004 M-F: 8am-5pm ET S: 10am-4pm ET Closed Sunday SHOP MCM BULLION WORLD COINS US COINS Make Money By Ordering from the Mint Order sets for $120.85 & we will pay you $250! I bought 2 sets this morning and I will probably get them graded, what are the chances of getting one graded to pr70 from PCGS.
SQG, found a set for you: http://www.ebay.com/itm/2015-Coin-C...verse-Proof-/111741113362?hash=item1a044a1412 We should all bombard him with multiple low ball offers...lol
THANKS! I'm going to jump on that. lol I bought one from eBay for $250. Based on what Truman is doing, the way these were dispersed more so, the popularity of Eisenhower, and the low mintage, I don't think they'll go for less down the road.
Hm. What would you tell your nephew if he wanted a 1916-D dime, but didn't have the $1K+ for a nice example? This seems like pretty simple economics to me -- if something is scarce and in demand, its price goes up; units offered at a lower price will be snatched up quickly. I don't think the 2/$500 price currently going on eBay is sustainable, and I think the folks buying at that price with the idea of selling at a profit are likely to be disappointed. Wait a bit, and you're likely to see them at a lower price.
These will likely appeal to Ike collectors. I can see the Ike set selling at a higher premium than Truman.
Think of it this way...at the current eBay price point of $220 per set, you could completely corner the market with only a $3.74 million investment. Surely there's some deep-pockets guy or gal out there who's willing to give it a go. This one seems primed for a Hunt brothers moment.
It's a shame the flippers and coin company's get so greedy making it impossable for collectors to get the coin they want to complete their sets. In my opinion the Us Mint dropped the ball of adding a RP president with only 17k mintage. REALLY? All the other presidential proofs sold millions. the lowest I've seen is 1.6 million, with 3.37 million for the highest. you can check the link out. http://coins.about.com/library/US-C...07-Pres-Presidential-Dollar-Coin-Mintages.htm Heres the thing thats confusing to me When I see completed listing on ebay I see a lot of flippers with the following. tilltheeyefallsout over 60 auctions. coinbuster60 over 40 auctions But what happened to all the MCM auctions and completed there were only 4? I saw a lot more when they were current. Now they're all gone? Is Ebay in on this with the big companies/ I know the companies increased the hype and here is proof MCM sent me this email. You decide what it implies. It did increase the hype. 1.941.907.8050 1.800.362.9004 M-F: 8am-5pm ET S: 10am-4pm ET Closed Sunday SHOP MCM BULLION WORLD COINS US COINS Make Money By Ordering from the Mint Order sets for $120.85 & we will pay you $250! Shaking my head, ripping off their very own customers.
I dont get why you think this is ripping anyone off. They are placing a to buy ad because they want the coins to sell. If people who have these coins cant find better buyers than MCM, then thats on them because this isnt the best price for these sets. I know of at least two buyers paying $150 or better per 1 set, not box of 2. Thats $300 for an investment of $120, id take that all day long. I still dont get what you think MCM is doing wrong here though? They are trying to buy inventory for their clients who want them. What business is it of yours that they have a clientele ready to pay their prices. And a news flash, its not just them who are selling these things, the market has decided they are currently worth a nice premium, and so the cycle goes. Place blame on the end users who are buying these things up at exorbitant prices, not the middle man who is literally in business to make money. Dont be bitter, its unbecoming.
Those people probably paid big bucks in the aftermarket getting those coins. And you probably don't see MCM sold items because they were more than 15 days ago.
