Always wanted to add one to my collection. Finally did so yesterday. Nothing fancy and not looking to complete a set or anything but thought it would elevate my collection a bit as a whole. According to sellers description it has a die crack although I don't care too much for that. I just really liked its eye appeal (judging by photos). PCGS photo and seller pics...
Really nice coin! Looks almost like gold. Let's see how long before someone gets offended by the "symbol" underneath the Eagle
I was hesitant to post it at first but thought it would be appreciated by most here since it's a nice coin regardless of where it comes from. It's also history so nothing that can be done to change it now except teach others so that history doesn't repeat itself.
I have coins 2300 years old with the same symbol, so anyone who gets offended by that symbol is simply showing their historical ignorance. That symbol has been venerated by humans for eons. Just because some lunatic with a bad haircut and even worst mustache also liked it should not speak ill on one of mankind's most venerated symbols. It only matters what the speaker, not the symbol itself, means by it. Spouting off hate filled stupidity and I have no time for it, talking about historical connotations and reverence for this symbol in antiquity and I would love to hear about it. Like other things, such as the Confederate Battle Flag, it matters only what the speaker's intent of the symbol is, not the symbol itself.
By the way..I never said I was offended. I do study ancient symbols and their meanings and I find it fascinating! If you ever read the books written by Dan Brown you get to see how he uses certain symbols in his novels. Fiction but reality at the same time. (sorry if I opened up a can of worms )
Fabulous luster! No reason to hesitate showing it off when ancient coins pictured on this site portray rulers who delighted in awful things being done to Christians, slaves etc.
Great coin. I have the set of nearly one of each specimen from 1939 to 1944. No pictures at the moment. And i agree, anyone offended by the symbol needs a good history lesson.
