If anyway possible in what ways would you like to change about this subject, hobby or life of errors? For the better of course. Example: I think less or limited errors meaning for every error should there be a standard height, weight and scale of that error. I also know that something like that is almost impossible cause not all of a single type of one error is the same. But there could be a standard and qualifications of one type of error of any year. if you get what I mean, if you don't I don't expect YOU too. You know what I was thinking, as I type out this post? How about a book that have a single standard, manual, instructions and a guide for every type of error. Have no pictures, just illustration of the error.(and I don't mean an entire book on a single error). Just as the instructions in anything you have to assemble or learn how to use after buying or purchasing it. If there is no such thing or is there?
I think the error should scale the height but the weight should be limited but only if the error is a single type. If there is more than one type there should be a limit to the type that is standard. I also feel the single type should be doubled if the weight is standard. I'm looking forward to the book.
@teachmind Alan Herbert's book on errors is, in my opinion, one of the best. Not only does it provide photos, but Mr. Herbert describes how such errors can occur. http://www.amazon.com/Official-Price-Guide-Errors-Edition/dp/0375722157 It is impossible to establish a set of standards for errors because an error can occur at any time during production with no way to control it, and most errors are one-time occurrences. For example, a strikethrough, can be produced by almost any foreign substance falling onto the planchet, and the position of the strikethrough is just sheer happenstance. Chris
I don't understand... Why can't you just ENJOY the hobby .. I find that collecting coins in general is exciting and calming. Error coins is a mysterious adventure that has different characters and you get to see those characters in different forms and roles and they all tell a magnificent story! teachmind.. I don't know what is the answer you are looking for but try like I said.. Just enjoy it, don't let it drive you insane and yes to http://www.error-ref.com/
Sounds like you enjoy errors so I suggest going with what's already in place and enjoy what you find and or buy.
what is that phankins11?, is that a subscription i do like that one and thanks for all your comments. I do like the books but I am as poor as they come. one day I will have all the books. for enjoying this hobby comment. it is pretty tough getting past the beginning or first part, and it is making it tough to enjoy. I just wish it was a little simpler, that's all.
I understand what you mean. I myself started to collect Error Coins about 25 years ago and some members here on Cointalk way longer than that. Do you think it was easy for me in the beginning? Especially without such a thing called The Internet. Back then all I had were a few books and coinshop owner info. Believe me when I say it's much more simpler now than at that time!
Thats a website with what I assume is every possible coin error known and the descirption and pictures. @paddyman98 uses it to school me when I don't know what I'm talkin'bout
thank you all very much. I guess what I am really asking is there any changes from what is now......no no its do you like how everything is or would you like it if there was something new added to the entire error-coin world. For example: Say there was a way of some kind of guidance for those new and old collectors, like a map or a locator just for some errors such as, well the BIE's now I don't know if its a crack or if the die chip that created these cracks and breaks that are in the same location on every Lincoln memorial cent that could be struck by a worn down die or its the vibrations of each raised character on the cent design. I say that of vibrations is cause, the breaks and they are going in the same on every break found and the cracks doing and going in the same pattern as other cents that have these cracks and breaks. I have came up with this cause I have done some hard and exhausting test trough out my studies I created. the die strikes each coin with the same exact force except with a new replaced die that is being tested and adjusted(I would think that is correct) please correct me if I am wrong, its very important. so continuing on struck with the same exact pressure and with this very powerful strike or force the vibrations off each and every raised part of the design go in and of my calculations there would be eight different directions it would go in. that's not including the size of the vibration that is something else that depends on the shape and size of one of the eight direction of the each character. I am getting way to complicated even for myself I am trying to get it done so it will be easy to understand........soon I will till then. p.s. maybe ill have the pictures ready also of the coins to show you guys of these claims...
Here.. vibrate on this - There are over 1500 types of "BIE" errors. http://lincolncentresource.com/FAQ/BIE.html also -
oh wait are you telling me that they are all in the same location then if you are saying that then I already knew that. good eye (I) though.
I am saying I know there are these die breaks and from those die breaks there are these cracks that are very fine - (including breaks) until you get a coin of a die that has been worn or used then you will see it with the naked eye on a coin, which you guys call breaks and crack dies. all Lincoln memorial cent start out with the same breaks and cracks except they are microscopic even then it is hard to see. so what I was saying about the vibrations is that they control the cracks. so with a single strike to the coin has the same exact positioned of pressure applied to the coin........not knowing anything about errors I may be wrong but no matter what I am going to post what my theory is that of I am creating, even though I embarrass myself or act like a fool in your eyes, say what you need to say. I am an easy target but also a target that of what you say dose not affect me. if that's why you make fun of others to effect them in a way that you want which is wrong let one person be him or her self of who they are, it just dose not make any sense to me why an individual would point out the ones that make mistakes and make fun of or sometimes bully them, making that person change or shutdown. Sorry all if I do get under your skin or in some way affect you meaning in a bad way, I don't mean to do so I am just being myself and no I am not smart or perfect but I like who I AM. Thank You all.
