@bear32211 After reading your post, I asked this question on "Ask NGC". According to Max Spiegel, the rule has not changed. Only Authorized Dealers are allowed to make appointments to submit their coins at the Sarasota office. http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=8775932&gonew=1#UNREAD Chris
Greg, I just checked, and only Authorized Dealers are permitted to deliver/pick up submissions at the NGC office. http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=8775932&gonew=1#UNREAD Chris
Although I didn't have coins graded (I submitted magazines to CGC, as stated in my opening post), I'm thinking NGC considers paid members of the Collector's Society as "Authorized Dealers". If that's not the case then Max may want to review what's going on over there. Also, both Collector's Society website and NGC's website make no mention of needing to be anything other than a Collector's Society paid member...
You should have posed the question to Max regarding Collector's Society paid members. That is all I have and I went to drop off AND pick up my items.
"Direct submission privileges" means you can send them in yourself without having to go through an Authorized Dealer. It doesn't mean you can walk your coins into the NGC location.
Perhaps that is correct. I suppose it is possible that the dealer requirement for walk-in submissions and pick-ups are different between magazines and coins although they are done from the same room lol. It is also strange that NGC's website doesn't state you must be an "authorized dealer" on any of the walk-through descriptions. In my case it doesn't really matter when it comes to coin grading. I don't have any coins valuable enough to make it worth paying the much higher WalkThrough price. For magazines the price difference isn't as much so it made sense (especially when also considering shipping and insurance of the larger and more sensitive items).
I never got the opportunity to visit the new facility. They changed the rule before they left the old building. Chris
PCGS did a Public Friday submission event back in March, although they hosted it at a hotel close to their location. I think the plan was to do these every now and then... http://www.pcgs.com/Shows/Detail/6513
