Here's what I don't get. Someone uses buy it now and buys a cheap coin but then doesn't pay. Someone bought one of mine using buy it now three days ago and still didn't pay. All my current listings are buy it now so they're not waiting for others to finish. The price was just over $2 so I hope they're not waiting for payday. Why wouldn't they just pay at time of purchase?
You need to set your BIN options for immediate payment required and they wouldn't be able to do that anymore.
People will hang on to their money as long as possible. They hope that overtime appears on their next check or it didn't but should have. Or they are actually making their purchase decision after the fact. They are young and even two dollars wasn't available after Mom or Dad said "no". Check the time and date of the sale to see if maybe they were partially a sleep and don't remember it. (Slumber can be alcohol induced). If two dollars becomes a big deal breaker or set back, don't participate in internet sales because it can bite you. You still have your coin, so it has no financial set back for you. Remember, nothing seems fair when you are on the receiving side.
I pay instantly whenever I win. Dang, if I need the money right away, I must be doing some rough things with my free time... Big sales in 30 days.
I'm not an eBay seller, but if I was I wouldn't think I'd be too perturbed if someone won an auction and took 2 or 3 days to pay. People are busy and things come up so it could take a couple days. Once you get to 4+ days, though, I'd be getting a little grumpy. That said, if someone doesn't pay for a BIN right away, that's kinda weird since they were for sure at their computer when they won the item...
You can't if you want to allow people to combine shipping though. Normally I sell with auction and not buy it now. I just have all BIN now because that's the free promotion they were running. If you start your auctions on different days as I sometimes do you need to give people leeway to combine shipping. Plus if it's international buyers I need to calculate shipping costs manually and can't program it in, so that's another reason why I can't do that. Otherwise it would be great.
BIN is a whole different animal , it should be paid immediately . As it's akin to buying something on Amazon or at a store .
In today's world with smartphones, PayPal and EBAY app it only takes 2 seconds to pay and you are notified instantlly on winning. There is no reason not to pay within hours. But as I said there are posters that think taking 5-7 days is acceptable. Personally I pay all EBAY auctions with an average time of less then 5 minutes. And I'm a busy guy at work.
I agree, BIN should be paid immediately. After all, the name is "Buy It Now," not "Buy It Three Days from Now". OTOH, for a true auction, I don't find anything at all wrong with waiting a couple of days to pay, especially if the seller combines shipping and has one or more other things for sale I'm interested in. In this circumstance, I think a message might be in order after a couple of days, but I wouldn't flip out over someone taking 3 days to pay. That just means they get to wait an extra couple of days before they get their stuff.
But what if the seller counter offered and then the buyer counter offered back and this was accepted by the seller when the buyer was not in front of the computer? Wouldn't that be analogous to a bidding process?
While usually very pro seller, I have to say that I find this idea of taking a few days to pay an unforgivable offense a tad much. When dealing with any hobby-related item, it is wise to remember that they are not a necessity, and that you're likely dealing with collectors like yourselves. You're not selling food, shelter, must-have medication, etc, so is allowing someone, within reason of course, to pay when convenient over the next few days such a terrible thing? Not everyone will appreciate it or care, but kind gestures and a little patience can go a long way, and is much more likely to result in repeat business than a two day unpaid claim will. This is, of course, different from someone who simply doesn't pay, but slamming someone over a few days, especially when you don't know why they're taking this time, is like cutting off your nose to spite your face, and considering eBay's buyer-coddling policies, isn't likely to benefit you in the long run or big picture.
I bought a 50 dollar coin from a guy that was on vacation for a month according to his EBay page.So I thought I would wait until he got back and could send me an invoice or email.Oh no 23 days later he opened a unpaid item case, no communication at all,so I paid it at that time.It made me feel like I did something wrong for waiting til he got back to business.Right or Wrong he just lost a customer who pays every time on time.....BwDuL
Your story suggests miscommunication from both parties was likely to blame. Regardless of what his eBay page said, if you were going to wait that long to pay, it was only reasonable to send a message notifying him of this and explaining why. Similarly, because of his absence, it would have been reasonable for him to have contacted you prior to filing any sort of claim. If anything, this strikes me as another fine example of why it's important not to assume another person will magically understand your motivations, no matter how obvious they may seem to you.
I usually pay right away. There was one auction that I couldn't pay for right away. I paid a day or two later. No harm no foul and there wasn't anything in the auction listing that required immediate payment.
Yeah, same here. I don't really care. One guy did a BIN and took a month to pay, lol. Must have been saving up for it.
