I think it depicts the story of a son who carried his father away from the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius, thus saving him. The story may be apocryphal, but it was evidently popular enough to be commemorated on a coin. Wait, no that was later - it was some other sort of catastrophe. Never mind!
Sweet pickups, Oki ... => fantastic "Non-Hadrian" additions, my coin-friend ... man, I love it when you deviate from your obsession-collection and randomly chase something shiny!! ... keep 'em coming!!

Terrific additions OKI !!! Somehow I missed this thread.... I think it's not instinct or impulse but COMPULSION!!! LOL I love the variety and I'm biased that way since my collection tries to focus on being comprehensive and inclusive of all ancients---especially Greek and early Roman. Congrats all on the great posts!!
That's a sweet impulse-buy!! ... I love it when you stray-away from your Hadrian comfort-zone!! (cool pickup)

Talk about impulse... I just noticed a VF grade denarius of Julia Soaemia offered for what is generally considered low retail, especially considering free shipping, and since I was still missing that lady of the Severan Dynasty I pulled the trigger once again... It's slabbed, but that only reaffirms the grade and authenticity and didn't factor--in itself ---into the purchase price....and it will soon be liberated anyway LOL Boy, will I be broke until the end of August now LOL
I mean, i missed your topic about your very nice coin, that i see in your avatar, can you link it. So i can see it better?
