The Mint would produce an anniversary coin about dog poop if they thought they could make money from it.

Okay, now to get ANACS or PCGS to make a special sticker!

I personally like this idea. The Moon Landings were a very significant scientific achievement.

Interesting, they are proposing a two sided coin (no edge). I would suspect they would have a real problem with die breakage.

    Yep!

For that matter, the moon landing reverse is the only reason I like the Ike and SBA Dollars.

What's wrong with making a commemorative for one of the most important scientific achievements in the history of humankind??? Geez, you guys are brutal.

If there is no edge, wouldn't it be more a "toroidal" hemisphere, if such a thing exists? Imaging a filled sphere and pushing upward in one dimension such that it collapses/ folds into itself. Now that'd be a cool coin!!

Now, how could you "coin" that with a traditional die and collar? It would have to be "formed" somehow methinks.

EDIT- Here's is the only shape I could find that matches what I'm picturing in my mind. I don't know how it would be described in math/geometry other than a filled toroid or a sunken/depressed sphere...

Doubt I would buy one, but I think it's a worthy event. Stayed up all night watching it.

This. There is plenty to complain about the mint and the modern commemorative program, commemorating the moon landing is not one of them. It was a more significant event than 95 percent of the other commemoratives and that includes the classic ones as well
