I always pay with credit card but today paid with $5 cash just for the heck of it after getting a glance of some buffalo nickels in the tray. Anyways, Here's the change for the $5. I got 6 buffalo nickels, 1920, 1925, 1928, 1935, 1937, dateless. I also got two Gem UNC 1983 Quarters and a star note. Anyone else have their coin dealer pay change with cool coins?
Many years ago, when I had a lot of AG and cull Indian cents, Lib nickels and Buffalo Nickels, I used to give kids their change in that kind of material. When some adults began coming to my table looking for the same deal, I had to draw a sensible line . . . some of them were actually resentful that I wasn't treating them like I was the kids. In retrospect, I probably should have treated them like kids . . . they were certainly acting like it. After a few months of shows, the YN finally ran me out of that kind of stuff.
One of the coin shops I go to always has weird change like that. I just recently went there and got one of the gold plated state quarters as change
It's mightily difficult to believe you got a Gem '83 quarter. Any BU at all wholesales for about $20 and Gems go much higher. Are you sure they don't have rubs?
The dealer I hung out with as a kid, handed out all kinds of stuff. It added a bit of fun to the shop and folks loved it. He used to tell folks that he will never run out of change.
The only thing I've gotten from change was 2 UNC Colorado quarters. It was nice though! If I ever went to your store and got change i would be speechless!!!!
A lot of time dealers run out of change and they get into their reserve that are pretty much face and use them as change
