@randygeki You may appreciate this; due to living in proximity, I have fairly easy access to the area in which it's found. Can anyone guess what the mineral is? Hint: Many mineral collectors would be extremely jealous at such proximity.
If it is red beryl, I want some! Both corundum and red beryl can be found in IAT's neck of the woods. Red beryl is less common. Edited: I may be wrong about corundum being found in any of the Utah mines.
Red Beryl was recognized as the rarest mineral in the world back in the 2000's. The only gem quality specimens have been found in the Wah Wah mtn range in Beaver County, UT. It's quite hard to find specimens as shown above outside of the Violet Claims; it is a private claim and they don't like people there. Anyways, nice mineral show, coin pick ups. Go figure a lot of us collect minerals as well.
You had a combination rock & coin show. You lucky puppy. I collect coins, rocks, & souvenirs from concerts I attend. I partiularly like your perisphincter fossils. Here are some perisphincters: Here are some rocks I don't think I've posed before. Quartz/Pyrite on the left & Stibnite on the right.
In addition to rocks, I collect guitar pick souvenirs from concerts I attend. We saw the Beach Boys last Friday night. The original Beach boys Mike Love & Bruce Johnston signed an old Vinyl record master for me. It looks like a Platinum record & will reside in my rec-room for a while. My friend shot a video of The Beach Boys signing it & sharing some of their guitar picks. Of course, Brian Wilson is no longer playing with The Beach Boys & neither is his brother Carl Wilson (God rest his soul). Not long ago we attended a Brian Wilson concert. He shared the stage with Jeff Beck. The music that night was very cool. Jeffrey Foskett tentatively replaced The Beach Boys Carl Wilson in 1981. This Friday, Mr. Foskett played guitar & sang the lead vocal on tunes like "Don't Worry Baby", "Wouldn't It Be Nice" and "Why Do Fools Fall In Love". His guitar pick is now in collect89’s collection: Here is a souvenir from Buddy Guy. In keeping with the tradition of showing both the obverse & reverse: This reverse has polka dots. Edit for TIF: I still don't have a guitar pick from Mr. Gilmour of Pink Floyd. If I'm ever given the opportunity, you will get one too.
wow, some neat rocks everyone. and some cool coins RG. i'm kind of interested in fossils, but i don't have any fossils or rocks to show. i was very interested in getting stoned in the late 80's and early 90's.
This was a gift from a friend. Ulexite. From Boron California. Let see whats on TV Rock!!! Another episode of Queen Boron.
Wow. ANoob saw The Doobie Brothers in concert & he captured a couple guitar picks for my collection! Awesome grilled cheese! Coin collectors are awesome. The guitar picks are apparently from Tom Johnston & Patrick Simmons. They are a couple of the original Doobies: Tom Johnston – guitars, keyboards, harmonica, vocals Patrick Simmons – guitars, banjo, flute, vocals Regarding rocks & minerals, everyone should check-out the Heritage October 4th sales: www.HA.com/5234
When I was a kid I had a mineral collection. I'm actually pretty sad that I don't know what ever happened to it, I would love to have it back.
We saw another ROCK concert last night. Melissa Etheridge gave a solo performance & our seats were front row (my seat was actually #A-1 ). Firstly, it was a great show. I walked away with a guitar pick for the collection & she signed a Vinyl record master for the collection. The guitar pick collection is stored with my Greek coins. That makes this post coin & rock related right?
