Love the find. Too bad I am having difficulties "spotting" the varieties. Well, as they say, patience; a few reference coins; and a good book with clear photos.

 

Cherrypicker would list as a FS-01-1961 D-501 a RPM; and apparently, with a mintage of 1.7 Billion 1961D cents, its not rare.
However, Good find and a feather in your cap.

Nice find. It looks as if there is some toning on the coin. Can we get a picture of the entire coin?

The best part about this, for me, is I could easily go buy one in any grade I want. The part that makes it worth it is finding one, posting for others to view and learning.
