I was given a box of old copper pennies that were bought sometime around 1974 or so when there was talk about stopping the production of pennies the guy said. I have had them over in the corner for months but because of my dad's love of coins I decided to do a little research and go through the box. I have pennies dating back to 1943, and one penny for almost every year thereafter. I have (4) 1944 pennies with no mint mark and one with a Denver mint mark. How do I know if they are copper or steal. I tried using a magnet but none of the pennies stuck to it. I read that a regular refrigerator magnet will not work but that's all I have. Any suggestions on how to tell if they are copper or not?
Thank you! I think I had a 1943 BUT I have literally THOUSANDS of pennies...maybe 10,000 or more. Ugh.
