Ok, you know what to do. Please guess the grade of this recent acquisition , and any possible designation. Please give opinions, and evaluation of the coin, and reasons for the grade. There was no room in the poll to add a + grade, so if you think so, feel free to add that to your description. Thanks! The coin has pale golden toning, FYI.

    To be fair, I've never seen a 48D that *wasn't* a FBL.

From those shots (and nothing against Dave) I'm ill equipped to determine FBL at all.

    Nice '63 :)

MS65. The bell lines are a blur on this monitor, so forget that. Could be all through, I'm not saying they're not. I think the imperfections give way to the good luster and overall good balance, and I'm just not seeing this coin on the market at under MS65.

I'll jump in, though I seldom try to grade coins from photos. I'd give it a MS65 No FBL, but then the photo through the slab makes in almost impossible to tell. Nice coin, not matter what.

I think some may be surprised. :)

Since you say a surprise I'm going to say 61 no FBL.As it does have a decent amount of chatter on the obverse and the graders might of been strict.

There are almost no contact marks, actually. Remember that I said it has golden toning. There are breaks in the toning, particularlly on the obverse.

Looks just like mine. A beautiful coin. I think most of the early Franklins have full bell lines.

1949S is hard to find with Full Bell Lines in gem condition. Other than that conditional rarity, you are quite correct. The mintage of the early ones was not sufficient to demolish the die state.

My best for this date is a MS-64 FBL. Still working on a set of them but I’m not looking that hard. Other sets to complete first that are easier to do. :)

64 FBL ....I see a break in the bottom bell lines (the ones needed for PCGS to give the designation) but I think that is a smudge of the slab....the coin looks lustrous with some hits scattered throughout both sides

Ok, the reveal. Only @eddiespin and @Mountain Man got it right. I don’t know if the pictures did not do it justice, or what. In hand, it is an absolute luster bomb, with rather clean surfaces, and nice golden toning. The slab is somewhat gritty, as @ddddd noticed, and perhaps it made it look less sharp. I find Franklins hard to grade, without really excellent photos, and these were cell phone photos on my desk. I have not polished the slab yet.
