Heres the link to the general search https://www.google.com/search?q=Die...=utf-8&oe=utf-8#q=Die+14+1964-D+kennedy+half+
Here are a couple of photos of the 64D DDO-014 in my collection. Attached is where you can find the DDO-014 in the CONECA Master Listings. http://www.varietyvista.com/Variety Master Listings/kennedy doubled dies 1964.htm#_1964-D Larry Nienaber
Thanks Larry for showing up, I'm holding down the fort for Briboy 07, he should be back later on and thanks for showing up on the other forum too ....
Lee, I believe you will find that you may be in error with your conclusion. It had nothing to do with the date James Wiles wrote his book, John Wexler used to be the Attributor for CONECA and when he decided to leave the hobby he sold his records to CONECA. CONECA needed someone to take over the records and Wiles volunteered, Wiles had to work with what was already attributed and in the records (right, wrong or indifferent). It is always easier to make a new listing then to remove one. If some of the coins were to be introduced today and not already in the listings, yes Wiles would probably say “Too minor to list” but he was stuck with what Wexler had already started. Over the years, Wiles has delisted several Kennedy varieties. Just my 4 bits on the subject, Caleb
Hey Thank you guys! Having a rough day at Doctors with So you think even though there is approx 6 known of that it is really only worth 25 bucks?
That population figure is misleading.... It represents only the coins of that variety that Dr. Wiles has examined. Considering I own 4 different 64-D DDO-014 and Wiles has only seen one of something tells me that there are more out there. Price? Probably $25 - $30 on the high side, we had to give $45 for the MS65 example we have in our Showcase Set. http://www.pcgs.com/setregistry/showcase.aspx?sc=1165
The coin in post 47 is the 1964-D CONECA DDO-003 or FS-103. The Coin Facts page linked is referenced to PCGS coin number 96707 which is the coin number used by PCGS before they added the varieties from the Fourth Edition of the Cherrypickers’ Guide Volume II. Just a note of interest: Currently if submitting a coin of this variety (FS-103) to PCGS for grading and attribution; Using PCGS coin # 146010 you have to pay grading fee + $18 attribution fee and they will put FS-103 on the label. If you use PCGS coin # 96707 you have to pay grading fee and nothing extra, the label will read Triple Die Obverse but not the FS-103 but can still be used in PCGS’ Registry sets as the FS-103. Value … Always comes down to what someone is willing to pay and what someone else is willing to sell for. If the 1964-D variety is listed in the Cherrypickers’ Guide (DDO-001, DDO-003, DDO-004, DDO-005, DDO-006 or DDO-008) than in MS63 you have about a $60 coin. All other varieties for 1964-D goes downhill quickly from there. There is always the chance when you want to sell that a buyer is looking for the particular variety you have to finish his/her collection and wants to buy no matter what the price is but I wouldn’t bank on this.
First of all, great find and great coin! I'm curious about this whole conservation thing. Since it's been cleaned but still given an MS grade, what methods did they use that make it okay to give it a problem free grade? I obviously wouldn't be able to tell it was cleaned, but they would since they cleaned it, yes?
