Time to head off to the 2015 Raleigh Money Expo (once again, a bit too late to be there for the ribbon-cutting).

This time, I'm hauling a small bag of stuff to submit to ANACS, and another small bag of stuff to show around to dealers (maybe some overlap between the two bags). I'll likely submit my Carr 1916 high-grade Barber halves. Got a couple of SLQs and Morgans that should go, a high-grade (I hope) three-cent nickel, and various other stuff. There's a 1934-D VAM 3 that looks MS, but also looks like it's been wiped around Liberty's neck :( -- that's one I'll show to some dealers for second opinions.

If you're there, look for the salt-and-pepper bearded bald guy with the backpack -- oh, wait, that's half the attendees. :) Maybe I'll put my CoinTalk handle on my nametag...

I won't be there until tomorrow. Traveling all the way up from Florida tonight in order to make it.

Vacation overlapped the show this weekend and I had to split the difference otherwise I would've been there already

I was there for a short period today, but I plan on making a day of it tomorrow.

Holy cow! That's a long trip. It is a good show this year, though; hope you find enough to make it worth your while!

ANACS doesn't have such a good special this year -- $10 each for dollars (minimum 10), $8 each for moderns (1964 and later), and two free with ten. The rep did say I could print out my 2-free insider offer and submit at the show, so I'll at least do that. Not sure which two coins to send, but I'm pretty sure I don't have 10 that are worth submitting.

I'll be going back tomorrow; I may sell off some junk silver and low-grade Morgans.

I've got two coins scouted from a well known national dealer that I saw on their ebay listing. Although I am hoping to find some other fresh material too.

I should be hanging around the LSCC table tomorrow for the most part.

Hopefully I will see you cruising the bourse then, still remember you saving my butt last year.

I'll try to remember to stop by. Chatted with John Frost for a while today about eBay and counterfeits; he gave a great presentation on Barber and SL counterfeits. Which reminds me, I need to drop back by that "copper Barber dime" thread from a couple of weeks ago...

I was supposed to be there for the presentation but was unable to convince my wife that being there for that was more important than sitting on the beach. I do get a special one on one session with John to go over it though. Really looking forward to meeting with him.

So there's something I have to print to get the insider special? Wonder if i,have to register with ANACS before I go or if I can do it on the spot....

Yeah, you have to have gotten their email; you probably can't make it happen overnight, I'm afraid. But all the other stuff I listed (including 2 free when you pay for 10) is available to anybody, and the rep indicated that he might be able to flex the rules a bit if you're bringing that many coins.

I may not get there until the afternoon tomorrow. I usually try to go in the morning, but arriving at 11 and staying until 2:15 today didn't work out very well for my metabolism. Maybe I can pack a snack. :)

Likewise. Sorry I didn't get to catch up to you, though!

No big pickups for me -- I swapped an ex-jewelry Liberty half-eagle plus change for a well-worn Indian half eagle, and sold off some silver and some dollars. I shipped off a three-cent nickel and a high-grade Carr "1916 Barber half" to ANACS. So, mission(s) accomplished, more or less.

I sent off 10 gold pieces and got 2 free submissions, so I used it on a 1916 Mercury dime that may be a 1916 D, and a possibly cleaned AU 1853 3 cent silver piece. Didnt buy anything but a hamburger at the show. Nothing really jumped out at me, and most stuff I did like way way too high. Tried to sell some stuff, but the dealers didn't want my stuff, or offered me chump change for it. So, to me, coin shows are just a show to me. No deals made.

I was there from 11 until about 2 PM. Left with 12 new additions to my British Empire collection.

Next time we should all wear CoinTalk propeller beanies or something.

I ended up going all three days. Unusual for me, I'm typically a one-and-done guy. I've been attending the local shows since I moved to the Triangle in 98, and this was probably the best one yet. The RCC is doing a good job.

I was so tired during the show that I didnt even think to try and spot any CoinTalkers out, if it hadnt been for Adam surprising me at the concession stand I never would have met any of you guys. I did have a great conversation with him over a hotdog and burger though, it was nice to finally meet some people in person that I had been wanting to get to know a little better.

I spent several hours with John Frost and probably gained more knowledge about the Seated and Barber series from just sitting with him than what I have gained in all of my private research and reading.

I think the Raleigh Coin Club is doing a great job also and am compelled to join their club so that I can become closer with the inner workings of the show and help out if I can do anything to help the momentum continue.

Sounds like it was fun! I would have liked to attended, but alas, someone walked off with my Checking info recently - no purchases for me until that gets resolved... Hopefully next year! Is the NCNA show in Greensboro attended as well? (I'm a little new to NC so haven't attended any of these...)
