I surely wish that this outstanding site had ASW content of each coin when looked up...it would be the perfect site if it did. I use NGC World Coin Search and it gives all that I want. If only.
No - No Mintmark is struck in Paris. Thunderbolt Mintmark is struck in Poissy France. This coin shows a thunderbolt. OP's coin -
I see.. But again, I can read on obverse in Arabic " Struck in Paris " ( Duriba Bi Baris). Krause Catalog shows this sign ( Arabic lettering) on obverse. And of course you know that I read Arabic. Hope I'm right.
I, paddyman98, have no idea that you read arabic! I was using the Numista info which tells me that thunder mark is Poissy Mint in France. No thunder mark is Paris. I'm not saying you are wrong but understand that I don't read arabic! Pero si quieres hablar en español pues lo puedo entender y hablar porque yo soy hispano
Here is my guess. The institution that makes the French coins is called "Monnaie de Paris" regardless of where the pieces are produced. These days for example all coins are minted in Pessac near Bordeaux, but that does not affect the name. The facility in Poissy was operated by SFM (Société française de monnayage), so maybe adding "Paris Mint" in Arabic was a way of saying yes, this is official money. Anyway, I also believe that this particular piece was minted in Poissy. Christian
