Yes, I know. Just wondering why they would be graded unless it was a proof or something. Maybe just to verify they are genuine?

I haven't yet come across any fake Eagles personally. I know they exist but the numbers must be far lower than counterfeit Morgan or Trade dollars.

DOES look like someone sneezed on the inside of the holder before closing it,eh?

Its a game in the grading world, first one to 70 wins a prize ...

That's what happens at the first of the year. Everyone wants to get the first strike designations so starting Jan 1st unopened green monster boxes start flooding into the TPG's by the hundreds or even thousands. then (after a cursory glance) they start flooding back out in MS-69 and 70 holders.

    Still only worth bullion.

That is my thought. If I took these to a local dealer, they would pay me what they are worth in bullion although there is a larger premium when buying since they are issued by the government. I only have one Silver Eagle and a Silvertowne Donkey bar. Better off buying junk silver since coins with numismatic value often get mixed in.

I see they are at $20 a piece now at Silvertowne. The local dealer said he would sell at their prices so I am sure I can get one from there for that or less and not pay for shipping. I bought one from Silvertowne when they offered free shipping.

Apparently Eagles do have a collector market above silver value. No matter how made up or "phony" it seems, people pay premiums for them. Especially for the lower mint years like 1996 or 1995, some years are in the $30-$40 range in price, PER coin.

I personally just like to buy the newer dated ones, you can usually find a 2015 or a 2014 for $17.50 - $18.00 bucks at a coin shop, just over spot. Not a bad price for them. Not talking about graded ones. Just ones in a generic coin sleeve. I don't see the point in grading an Eagle. And after all, I don't want my Eagles being sneezed on. :p

Yes, they do have a collector's market. The mint sells these and they are burnished or proof.

It looks like the beginning of a nice rainbow toning. In a few years it'll be worth a whole lot more.

I seriously doubt that the spots were there when it was slabbed. It needs to be re-dipped and re-holdered which only PCGS can do in order to keep the First Strike™ label.

Of course, if they don't come out, then it would also get a down grade.
