Does Heritage Auctions have a set seller's fee like they do a buyers fee for small players like me? I know if you have enough stuff, you can negotiate your fee, up to and above full hammer price. I would probably send about $5k worth of stuff to them, but if I have to pay huge fees, I may look elsewhere.
I've never sold on Heritage, but I'm pretty sure both their buyer and seller fees are fixed percentages of the hammer price.
I sell on ebay all the time, and lose my tail on almost every auction. I see similar coins on Heritage selling more much more than mine.
I know fore sure the sellers fees can be negotiated. My LCS is working with someone who is going to get almost 102% of hammer. He must have some big time stuff. He said I could throw some stuff in, but I don't know if he means a lot of stuff or a few. He is still waiting to hear back from Heritage on the final percentage.
That's true. You typically have to be talking about major rarities to get an auction house to not only waive their seller's fee, but cut you in on the buyer's fee as well. If you can piggy back on that, I'd definitely investigate it.
Guess it all depends on what you are selling. I thought Heritage was 17.5% fee and I thought they only take high value coins.
17.5% is their buyer's premium. Best I can find, the seller's commission is 15%. I don't know if they have a strict minimum value on what they'll accept.
I've never sold through Heritage, but have been told by those who have that Heritage negotiates down the seller's fees on consignments they feel will draw bigger bidding audiences. I suspect that means classic rarities, and not coins for which they already have similar or better examples lined up.
find a show close to you where they will have a rep at and take the items with you. Have a list with current Bid and Ask prices from the CDN. Makes it easier on the rep and a lot less phone calls to the home office for them. You can call them and ask them if they'll have a rep close by even if its at a baseball card or comicbook show.
That's the way I understand it as well. They have some great reps that will help you over the phone. Some dealers that consign high value coins get a better deal. One of the guys there told me they want coins worth $300 or more and the total consignment worth $5000 or more.
Wonder how that works, because I see plenty of coins sell for under $300. Maybe the overall value needs to be "worth it" to them...
Yes the sellers fee is negotiable on very large consignments, extreme rarities etc, but $5,000 would be considered a SMALL consignment and they are not likely to negotiate a reduction for you.
That is the BUYER's fee, not the seller's fee. The OP is asking what he will be charged when he sells on Heritage -- not buys. Last I heard, the Heritage SELLER's fee was 10%....where did you read that it was 15%?
I see that, but where did @Paul M. find that number? I've never seen 15% published or advertised as the seller's fee anywhere...I'm asking because if that is the case, I'd like to know (from a reputable source, not just "say-so").
I believe the seller's fee is the same 17.5% as the buyer's fee is. I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure I read that in their T&C's over the past year or so.
